Vote up XB1 extender functionality here

#1

Post by glugglug » Thu Jan 02, 2014 2:13 am

Saw this posted in a thread about XBOX One's lack of MCE support on the XBOX Live forums. Adding Media Center Extender functionality is now the #2 most popular suggestion, and supposedly the suggestion box is monitored by MS. You can vote for the same thing 3 times - I'm pretty sure this group would bring it to #1 quickly.

Dropped in my 3 votes... although I doubt they will take it seriously every little attempt helps right?

I have no interest in paying $500 for something that can be done with an older unit for far less money.

Dont think i will ever buy a XB1, but I would love to see Microsoft support their legacy product. No harm in voting

Although I agree with the sentiment. Flexing the communities muscle allows us to remind MS that there is still a decent community interested in these things, might allow for SOME support... and well for a tech geek as me... gives me yet another excuse that validates purchasing an item I was borderline on even thinking about getting, but considering I am sure that at some point my wife will find some exercise video game she wants on it and that I also have two children. Finding an actually valuable use for an XBONE (aka getting MS to add the extender or WMC functionality into it) would make it easier to swallow that tech bill)

This from the guy who just dropped coin in the last 3 years to go from all 1366 to 1156 to 1155 systems household wide... and I just recently re-purchased some old 1366 gear just so I could set up a 12 thread 6 core HTPC and a second personal workstation for folding :P with only two excuses... overclocking them was more fun than the current intel stuff... and I got it cheap...relatively! Doesn't even count the money I spent on my Case Labs case and other assorted watercooling gear in the house along with the WMC setup and all the extenders lol... I just live looking for excuses to play with this stuff...

I questioned that too. I browsed around the site, and found the Terms Of Service. If it isn't being operated by Microsoft, then someone has done a lot of work to make it look that way. It looks pretty legit to me. I say there's no harm in voting. I left my 3 votes.

It's interesting that this suggestion is the only one with a significant number of votes that doesn't have "under review" next to it.

I am sure Microsoft does not want this functionality any longer. They want to make money in selling the content. Why let us record a tv series when we can pay for it. The cable companies and Microsoft probably have a deal etc... But what do I know. Happy New Years!

I see Cameron from Microsoft has passed all suggestions along to development EXCEPT the MCE functionality.

I imagine you could vote from several different emails too, if you wanted. No harm in voting and reminding Microsoft who their true devotees are.

I will mention, that telling Microsoft "I only use xbox for dvr, and without mcx, I don't buy one" is a poor argument. They lose money on each xb1, so unless we back it up with promises of never-ending xbox live subscriptions and game purchases, I doubt they care.

170 votes / 3

I think we will have more luck seeing an update to the ECHO then seeing Media Center on the XBOX1. Android after Christmas right!

Exactly the same thing I thought! I did drop in my 3 votes though.

I voted. It would be nice to have a tile and be able to jump from WMC to Netflix/Amazon/Twitch.

Media extender request is listed twice technically. It's just worded funky the second time but it has 70 votes.
