The end of linear TV?

My soon to be ex told me that when she went to get a DVR and see about getting a cheaper plan the FiOS guy told her there is no point because in 6 months all the cable TV operators will no longer be offering TV service, only internet and phone, and that the current cable channels would only be available via streaming providers. This seems to match what the Motley Fool ads I see on Facebook are suggesting. Anyone heard anything more about this? I figure if there was something to it I would have read it here..

Sounds like they are hoping an act of congress changes current laws regulating these things.

I don't know if that is true but I see cable companies really botching that up. No one will want to switch equipment for starters and if there are technical issues, which there usually are, a lot of people will probably just cut the cord. No one wants to pay for cable that doesn't work when there is Netflix.

This almost certainly will happen eventually, but there’s no way it will happen in 6 months.

If they do that, I might just give up on watching TV altogether. Too much trouble to try to keep up with what is available when everything is a patchwork of competing apps and pay services.

That's pretty close to how I feel also. I'll take up reading or something but yea, they can screw this up to the point where I just quit giving any of them my money.

I'm lazy. I like to schedule every program that looks to be even a little bit interesting. If I watch it a year after it aired, and it is crap... I delete it.

I don't want to go searching on the Internet for shows to watch.

I read an interesting article the other day that seems pertinent. Streaming TV is about to get very expensive...

Everybody wants a piece of the pie!
