Interesting. This is also the first time I was made aware that Tribune is selling Gracenote to Nielsen. Hopefully Gracenote will stay strong, I would hate for TiVo to be the only main player, not that competition seems to be making much of a difference in terms of TiVo bringing their data up to snuff.

I only hope for guide autonomy. With all the consolidation going on I fear that guide data could eventually be owned by a content creator or distributor. Imagine how bad Verizon guide data could be if Comcast owned Gracenote, or vice versa.

I spoke with the Gracenote folks at CES a bit about this. Here's a bit of history.

Tribune Co splits out (but owns) Tribune Media Services (TMS.. the guide provider)
Tribune Co completely breaks from Tribune Co (around the time of Tribune Co's bankruptcy)
TMS buys Gracenote (not the other way around).
TMS takes Gracenote's name to break from the Tribune brand.
Nielson buys Gracenote.

The folks I spoke with considered this a pretty good fit and mostly a money play... Gracenote/TMS will probably continue to self-manage.

Of course, this came from sales guys who are optimistic by nature.

So, if you say Tribune (and even the TMS guys do), realize you're talking about TMS, not Tribune Co ( the newspaper biz)

^Looks like a Trump deal to me. Everything lost in the paperwork...who knows what is where...

Just add
sd buys EPG123
then
TMS buys sd
