Cisco STA1520 - Time Warner

I just wanted to pass along some info that I received while speaking with the TWC CC tech yesterday, in case this may help someone else. The issue was that none of my switched digital channels would tune, and the light on my Cisco STA1520 was blinking. Power cycle of the TA did not help. CC tuned channels still worked fine. (Go figure, the cable company's hardware was the issue... not the Prime) :o

While I was on hold, I was going through the logs on my HDHRPrime and the logs within the STA1520. Here is what I found. Around 3PM the day before, the following appeared in my HDHRPrime logs. (ignore time stamps, as they appear to follow UTC)

20120914-19:12:01 CableCARD: Tuning Resolver authentication status: none
20120914-19:12:01 CableCARD: Tuning Resolver operational status: disabled

Interestingly enough, I found the following in the logs of the Tuning Adapter. This was found on Page 3 of the "PowerKEY Information" section. The URL in my browser looked like this http://<Prime_IP>/get_tr_url?tr:///diag/6_3.html

Sub Expires: 0914.151200
CA Time: 0915.091100

According to the TWC tech, their Tuning Adapters recieve monthly authorization subscriptions. In my case, the TA did not recieve the updated subscription key like it should have. I power cycled it before I called and once while on the phone. No joy. (per the tech, a pwr cycle should clear this) The only way that it would come back was for the tech to send a "hit" to the device. Now that the TA is back alive, I see the following in my TA logs.

Sub Expires: 1015.050400
CA Time: 0916.091100

So there you have it... hope this helps someone.

On a side note, I requested a switched digital channel lineup. He said that they don't publish that, and it changes from market to market. Oh well, it doesn't hurt to ask. I must also say that the tech I spoke with (Dave) knew his stuff and answered every question I had concisely.

Which firmware did you have on the device?

This was one of the issues that I had that was resolved by getting the firmware updated. Unfortunately getting that done was painful (had to threaten to get the FCC involved). The current firmware that is working is STA1.0.0_1520_LR_F.1601. The firmware with the issue was STA1.0.0_1520_LR_F.1402. In this area the "general" version used is fw 1501, but they now will update you to 1601 if specifically requested/authorized by the "IME manager".

Looks like I'm running the "general" version that you indicated. I don't know when they started pushing this version or for how long my Cisco unit sat in the warehouse... but I've had thsi unit since February or March. So, it's hard to say how long I've been running this F/W.

SOFTWARE VERSIONS
PTV OS: Explorer1kg6 NGP OS
FLASH: STA1.0.0_1520_LR_F.1501
App(s): SARA v1.61.41.a202
