If I upgrade my Windows 7 Media Center to Windows 10, will I still be able to play back PROTECTED CONTENT shows that were previously recorded? When I say upgrade, I mean upgrade from within the Windows 7 install using the free Windows 10 thing, not a clean install.
My Windows install is years old,...

What official codec from Microsoft enables protected wtv filed to be played? I thought that transferring protected files between PC's was a already a grey area.
How many people do not have additional codec installed on a media PC anyway? MS default codecs are not enough for the majority of people....

Hi, was really excited to find I could install media center on w10.
My problem is that I schedule TV shows to record but when my PC goes into sleep mode it won't wake.
I have kept my main PC hooked up to my TV on w7 because of this.
Has anyone else had this problem as I have tried it on 2 other...

Which version are you using? You need to add NETWORK Service to the administrator group. Here's how:
From Computer Management, expand System Tools > Local Users and Groups > Groups.
Double-click the Administrator group and click Add. Click Locations and select your computer node.
Now:
Type Network...

A long while back, I of course did the reserve a copy of Win10 thing, because why not, right?
At the beginning of August, I started having a new issue out of the blue, in which my display would go blank after a few seconds of playing anything in WMC. The sound would still be there, but no video,...

Configure WU to ask you to install updates instead of automatically doing it. Then, just individually choose which ones to apply and don't select the Win 10 update. I never signed up on my Win 8.1 WMC PC for the upgrade, but did install the W10 Preview on some other PCs while using the same MSA,...

Windows 10 is just about here—and many users (especially those who have been wrestling with Windows 8) are probably eager to upgrade. But even if you can get it now—the upgrade will be sent first to those who signed up for the Windows Insider beta program and then in “slow waves” to everyone...

is it possible to do free upgrade to windows 10 and have a dual boot for win8/7 and keep both licenses activated?
Nope, performing the upgrade transfers/invalidates the key. All you have is a 1 month period where you can roll back to 7/8 and have it be reactivated with the old key (and then you...

Lol, to distance themselves from 8, Microsoft is skipping 9 and going right to Windows 10:
:D

I just wanted to add based on the subject of the thread:
Windows 8.1 was the official name for Windows 9. Looking at the internal version numbers, 8 and 8.1 are different kernel numbers. I'm sure it's known by now that they wouldn't use the name Windows 9 due to confusion with Windows 9x.
