Seems strange that after about 10 years of use that my favorite bit of software that I thought originally would 'take over' the world is now almost a nuisance for microsoft.

I think ' Third Parties will create Metro App equivalents to the various parts of MC '. I personally think a remote friendly...

What version of Windows Media Center will be included in Windows 8?
The version of Media Center included in Windows 8 is what we shipped in the Windows 8 Consumer Preview. It is much consistent with what shipped in Windows 7.

I am depressed. MS wants us to pay for WMC but is the same as Win7.

Looks like you can upgrade to WMC8from regular windows 8 by just upgrading to pro. The big question is will MC8 have any new features
-Metro App
-Streaming Copy Once to other devices on the network
-Fix Bugs

Anyone else have an issue connecting extenders? I have two (DMA2200's) and both get stuck on 'connecting to PC...' and end up with a black screen

i got a 360 working yesterday, but a weird issue came up where it said all tuners were in use. it was like every time i changed the channel, it used a new tuner and acted like it was recording or something on the previous channels. i restarted my PC and will try again today.

I wonder if this is simply a SKU for the stand alone WMC product. Similar to the product that companies are using in their set top boxes (aka, Ceton).

I try and stay glass half full but media center is slowing dying.

CES is at a close and i've seen practically no mention of media center 8, i say practically, I don’t think I’ve seen any news on it.

Companies like netflix don't even bother making a plugin for media center that would get money...

Anyone have any view on whether tablets will get Win8MC? If so will we see a form of Softsled to allow you to view LiveTV on your tablet - this is one way of one-upping Apple!

That assumes that one can run Media Center on a tablet and that you are on your LAN. This should also work for a HDHR for OTA broadcasts. The problem is that you have to sustain a 19Mbps network connection to your tablet. Given that tables are so mobile it doesn't really make sense to connect them...

Media Centre This is going back into Windows 8, Microsoft say but wasn’t ready in time for the Developer Preview. We can fully expect this to get a very significant interface overhaul to make it look and operate much more like the next...

I believe the Niveus product is just a front-end for MCE. Not that that's a bad thing, but it still fully uses MCE on the backend

Surely microsoft get OS monies in for extender PC's ? Weren't there loads of rumours about Xboxes being sold at a loss to get u into Xbox live?? The OS can't be a loss maker surely and if you're linked in to XBox live i'm sure it'll be harder to circumvent the OS registration security.....

Well.. lets face it this topic was going to popup at some point.

• IPTV - After using boxee for a while I would like to see integration of IPTV apps, iPlayer, 4oD, revision, hdnation tv etc etc.

• FLAC support - I know i can play them but I want to tag them also.

What do you make of this article? Sounds pretty serious to me if MS are dropping Dolby out of the OS?

This is a very plausible explanation why Dolby isn't included in Windows8:

Windows 8 is a two layer OS; one for desktops that is essentially Windows 7 sp2. The other is the Metro interface designed for touch interface, but also, conveniently, accepts 4D WMC remote control input.
