Whats that you say? You want TGB.tv to be even MORE useful than before?

Now you can update your HTPC specs in your user profile, and they will automatically appear under your mini profile in all the topic views. Mine are already loaded in- to see them, click on the Monitor+ icon next to HTPC Specs...

We were being bombarded by several search bots (ClaudeBot being the main culprit). The bots completely ignored the robots.txt file and pushed us way over our resources.

Hi folks,

just a quick heads up to say we'll be upgrading the forums to the latest version of phpBB within the next few days.

I plan to carry out the work one morning (UK time) this week, the forums will hopefully only be offline for a short time.

The lights and snow effects are turned on by default for all users but you can turn on/off 4 settings within User Control Panel>Board Preferences if you'd prefer to not see any / all of the effects.

The extension is a new version and any previously saved preferences may not be applied...

We've moved to a new host and the DNS change has taken an age to settle down - hopefully it will be completely propagated within the next day or so.

Getting errors in chrome when accessing many/most pages on the forum

This server could not prove that it is www.thegreenbutton.tv; its security certificate expired in the last day. This may be caused by a misconfiguration or an attacker intercepting your connection.

Every year about this time I look forward to seeing it Snow & break some holiday lights.

Transplant stuck in the South, never get to see Snow before say Jan - Feb (if any).

I also like how the Snow changes direction based on your mouse movement!

I’m experiencing intermittent load problems in the EPG forums. Sometimes they open up fine but more often I get a server not responding. I think this might be the largest forum in terms of posts.

I can barely do anything. Going to other pages drops the cpu usage to near zero. What is going on? Its sustaining at 100% for several minutes now.

So if we were to add a new section aimed at creating a file store for Media Center add-ins etc, in what sort of format would you guys and gals prefer to have it?

1. A new forum section where add ins can simply be uploaded as attachments?

What happened to the topic: Why moving away from WMC will be tough? It was over in The Green Button Lounge. Now it is gone.

well.. its two years since the OP and I think the topic is still worthy.

I'm still using WMC (w8.1) and i'll really have a tough time moving away. I don't plan on it any time soon. Thanks to the folks at EPG123 the guide issue is resolved...I just really love it. I use EMBY for my movie collection...

While I would not wish to detract from what this project has brought to the community, shouldn't this be located under 'WMC add-ins and 3rd party apps' rather than under 'WMC electronic Program Guide'?

Is it necessary to manually change the Summer Time/DST is in effect: option in the control panel of these forums whenever we transition in and out of DST? Or is it supposed to change automatically?

I currently have to set it to No to get the correct time on forum postings.

Of course the exact date changes, but it is always deterministic (unless they change that, which happens only rarely). So in the US, the change happens on the Sunday of the second week in March and the Sunday of the first week in November. It always happens on Sunday morning, so obviously is not on...

I'd like to be able to directly insert a picture (screencaps mostly) without having to post them to IMGUR or some other HTTP website first. Can this functionality be added to TheGreenbutton.tv forums?

Yes, email notifications are working. When you post a new topic, you need to enable the email notification option on the bottom. You can also set this as a default in User Control Panel-->Board Preferences-->Edit posting defaults.

TheGreenButton.com is now as fast as most sites I visit. It used to be horrible. Pages would take minutes to load, if they loaded at all. I'm not sure what you did, but thanks!

Have noticed that I'm not getting email notices on subscribed topics... Don't actually seem to be receiving the mails by my server logs, not trapped in a spam folder far as I can see. Are others getting subscription notices?

I used to use TGB then Windows Experts as a support forum for my (free) windows media centre script. Basically I'd put in the documentation that if people wanted to ask a question the best place was the forum and then with a link to that place.

I visit pretty much every day using Chrome and all of a sudden I'm not staying logged in even though remember me is checked at login. Anyone else seeing this?

(And should we have a separate board for forum issues/questions so I don't have to post in lounge, or should I have done this another way?)

FInally solved this by deleting the last day's worth of cookies (including TGB's I guess) in the privacy settings. Been staying logged in ever since.

Well, the old TGB used to send every post via e-mail. I don't mind it either way. I may have to create a new folder in my e-mail and a rule to put all of the e-mails from TGB.tv into that folder.

This board is low-traffic enough that using View unread posts is feasible, but I can't find a Mark forums read button on its page, which negates a lot of the convenience. Am I missing something? The Tapatalk app does have it!

I carried out some maintenance on the Tapatalk plugin earlier, unfortunately you may now see an incorrect number of unread posts reported.

One workaround is to mark the forums as read in your Tapatalk app and start from scratch.

Frequently, when coming to this site from a Bing search (green button tv), the first result gets redirected to or some other type of malware site. Is this a known issue or an issue with an ad? The Bing search result points to so it looks legit.

Looking forward to the site going live !

I noticed that the navigation bar at the top of the page ( Board index < ... ) infringes on the bottom of the banner graphic when viewed in both IE8 (all the time) and Firefox (narrow windows only). No biggie - just an aesthetic thing.

I think you'd be handing in your notice! There must be tight guidelines from MS about what you can and cannot do, so you'd be stuck between a rock and a hard place...

Peeps,

As we've had no movement in both the Vista and XP Media Center Topics, what would you like done to them? Keep them for sh*ts and giggles? Perhaps someone will ask a genuine question? Who knows. Looking for the general consensus. Poll closing a week today, Monday 27th.

The email notification doesn't contain what the new posting is, just that there has been one. Can they be changed to have the content of the update please?

The mails also seem to come from Rob's personal email address.

(Lets test makryger's 20 minute boast - given that he's probably asleep right...

TGB.tv has a Favicon now! IE9 never played well with them, so it may not work there (unless you add to favorites), but it will work great in chrome and firefox.

Starting to feel like home yet?

Just wondering if there is a way to have the option for each user to disable receiving an email for every new post to a topic they are subscribed to? EG avforums only send out one email per topic until you re-visit the site. This obviously saves bandwidth and reources on the server and stops...

Good stuff, there seems to be possible issues over at the hosting company again, I'm going to leave all email related stuff for a day or so to see if things settle down.
