I pay $98/month for HD TV from Brighthouse Networks, including the CableCARD and taxes. This includes Showtime, but none of the other premium content. My internet bill is separate, and paid for by my employer. So, $100 doesn't sound bad.
Is this WOW company an IP-based TV system? Do they coexist...

Time Warner Cable Tunning Adapter Updated Yet?

I know Cisco was supposed to be updating their tunning adapter to handle all four streams for the Ceton Card. I was wondering if anyone had an update to this? I have to reset my adapters at least once a week for the wife to enjoy her channels. Just would be nice to have one and not have to worry....

The 6-tuner InfiniTV only requires a single TA.
a what? ;)
When might I be able to give some online vendor a credit card number to increase my tuner count from 4 to 10, if I deem that 8 isn't enough or 10 is more cost effective.

DirecTV update alert!

If you are a DirecTV customer they sent an update to their H2x series of STB's last night that has intorduced a new Power Saving mode that puts the box to sleep if a channel is not changed in 4 hours. It is turned on by default an seems to have no settings other than on and off.
Absolutely stupid....

I consider introducing any new features that affect functionality of the box without notifying your customers to be stupid. Is the feature stupid? No. However deploying it in the off state and then informing the end user of it's existence would have been a better choice.

Copy from a Cox DVR

I have a Motorolla DVR (don't have the model # in front of me now) and it's the latest version offered by Cox. It performs well but I am interested in how to copy recorded shows to my network. Of course, Cox is not help though they say I am allowed to do so with their unit. The unit is connected to...

I wonder what kind of file system they use on commercial DVR's? And whether the copy protection is done by the DVR hardware, or actually is encoded onto the files on the hard drive.
Would one be able top take the hard drive out, connect to a PC and just copy the files?
Many (maybe all) Cable...

I have some random questions regarding coax signal loss as I plan on doing some re-wiring in the house soon. If I had my choice, I'd rip the drywall out and do it right.... but the wife won't allow that. :D So, I'll be doing some creative patching... so bear with the randomness.
Regarding female...

Thank you for the informative post. Since you say the RG59 will be okay, I may just stick with it since it wil be a whole lot easier.
What is the true limiting factor on this type coax? Is there just more signal loss/ attenuation?

FCC allowing MSOs to encrypt basic tiers

I know at least one waiver has been granted in the past (I believe to CableVision in NYC) but now waivers are no longer necessary. My understanding onf this is that MSOs can encrypt the OTA channels if they wish, so it's possible this will kill ClearQAM - depends on how many MSOs jump on board.

Just in case anyone here sees them, I did file comments with the FCC on this today (at Please note that these are my personal comments (and filed as such) and do not necessarily reflect Ceton's views.

So I was home for the holidays, and got to experiment with the Uverse system that my parents had installed a few months ago. I initially thought it would be like Media Center, but maybe a different skin, but its very different. I'm actually not a fan. The menus themselves are very difficult to...

Media Room is sh*t. Certainly as it's deployed in Uverse. In the Atlanta area the video is so highly conpressed it looks worse than non compressed SD. We have spent a few hours in the local AT&T store playing with it and comparing it to the product our compnay created and we support. We blow them...

I live in Central PA, recently my QAM tuners could no longer tune the NBC HD channel, just said no signal.
Upon calling the Comcast customer service, I was advised the following:
- Would need a digital converter box as they are moving to SDV;
- The current signal is analog and our QAM tuner...

I recently moved and my new cable company, Windjammer Cable, says that they don't offer CableCARDS in this area. My reading of the Telecommunications act of 1996 is that cable companies are required by law to offer CableCards for a reasonable fee . Has anyone here encountered a similar problem with...

Either he got his cable card or Windjammer sent Vinnie and Butch out to have a word with him.

I did a search for this question but couldn't find exactly the answer I was looking for on Google.

I'm on Brighthouse Networks (Time Warner), and I can tell you that they send lots of channels in ClearQAM. Their latest advertising gimick is More. Free. HD. Interesting article about how STBs are becoming real energy hogs, particularly because they are on 24 hours a day. Another reason why HTPC>>STB, especially if you put it to sleep. :)

I work in the TV VOD and Linerar broadcast industry and this article is right on the money. People have become really spoiled when it comes to stb and they quite literally want to press the On button and have the TV playing. NO amount of delay seems acceptable, not even 10 seconds.
HTPC's are...
