Yep, HDMI over IP is the way to go. Forget about running HDMI cables all over the place; it's expensive and HDMI is not reliable over long distances. Running CAT5e/CAT6 is cheaper, easier to work with, and more reliable.

CableCard is only required in USA, and even then it is only required if you are providing Cable service . For instance, AT&T U-verse is not considered cable, it is an IPTV service and therefore is not required to support CabeCard.

A LNBF can be bad, but i's not common - did they swap it? I'd start to question their skills. FYI Primestar dishes are KU band and some (I don't believe all) are dual LNBF - you could get one and install it your self - it's pretty easy.

Long (35 feet) less expensive cables have worked fine for me. I have two and I think I paid between $30 and $40 for each.

Hi,
I need advice about upgrading our media system. I just found the Green Button (Fantastic site!) and plan to spend time learning all I can. In the meantime, my current ideas for an upgrade are:
HP Pavilion h8-1273c computer (see below for specs) and a SiliconDust HDHomeRun Prime, with three...

I agree with Adam. All except the sleep thing. Sleep is easy. Especially if you use XBoxes for your extenders. If you want to get more exotic, you can use other extenders, but be prepared for the minor bugs and... if you want wol you'll need to modify your router (unless you use an xbox). I have...

Screen Refresh Rates For High-Def TV

Is there anyone who uses HDMI to drive their TV with 1920x1080 at 50Hz (UK, Europe), or with 1920x1080 at 60Hz (USA, Canada)? If you do, what graphics card and TV are you using?
The reason I ask this is that my Nvidia 8600GTS connected to my Toshiba 32WL56 allows me to choose 1920x1080, but does...

for your eye to perceive the difference between 720P and 1080P you need to go bigger than 42” AND have content that is higher resolution
It doesn't matter how big the screen is. Every screen size has a viewing distance where 1080p can be distinguished from 720p....you just have to be sure to...

EDIT: This was operator error read my last post for details
I recently upgraded my home receiver to an onkyo rc360 so now everything switches wonderfully through the receiver instead of the mess that I had prior.
I've found an issue that I can't seem to figure out. Wondered if anyone has seen...

Yes I am running the latest beta version 290.53, seems fine for MC so far.
If you have a previous driver package you would rather install (that doesn't have the black screen in MC issue)
Check your C: drive at: C:/NVIDIA/DisplayDriver folder.. Nvidia extracts the driver installer files before...

Same here, I won't even buy my HDMI cables at retailers anymore, most are too expensive. I purchase them on-line for around $10@ and have about 8 of them in use. They are perfect for all my HD devices (including Apple TV). Same goes for Toslink cables. Sorry Monster, never bought them and never...

I recently traded in my 2 cable boxes for a Ceton InfiniTV 4 and now all my recordings are copy protected.
I formerly used a pair of Hauppauge HD PVR and was able to record to DVD as a 1080i Blu ray disk using the component output exploit. I'm contemplating using the second HDMI output on my...

You must plug your laptop directly into the TV, or an AV receiver that has HDMI input. Whilst I don't know the Comcast box, I assume it cannot act as a throughput for the laptop to the TV.

Hi guys
Wondering if anyone has used a harmony 200 on media entre duties
Seen the 300i and have a 680 but the 680 is on it's last legs and wanted so something that I did not have to change the batteries every couple of weeks so was figuring that without the screen it might not eat juice.
Got kids...

Yes, I had forgotten about the Watch TV button. Other than that, the 300 (and 200) is not a typical Harmony.
Yes, you *can* reprogram FF and REW with other functions, but then you'd lose FF and REW.

I have a Vizio VO42OE tv with VGA input and two Acer A221HQV monitors.
I have the resolution on my laptop VGA out set to 1920x1080. When I plug the Vizio TV into the VGA output it fills the screen perfectly, everything looks wonderful. The problem: when I plug a StarTech ST128L 8-way VGA...

I see a old C-band feedhorn (well, 1/2 of it) with a couple of (Norsat? Charparral?) LNBs on it.
Those are Norsat's. The rest is out behind the building with some L band's mounted on it. The ones on the shelf are going back on one of...

Not sure if the boards are international, but if anyone in the UK is thinking about swapping to the new Virgin Media V HD box (or V Box HD), I can tell you that it works.
The Box is a Cisco 4585HD, also know as a Scientific Atlanta 4585 HD. It will run box HDMI and Scart out at the same time, and...

Thanks for this. Good to know it works.
Though, like you said, with Tivo available now when/if my STB dies I'll probably just get one of those. It'll happen anyway at some point even without a failure to force the issue. I've already long since stopped spending money on my 7MC machine.

For those curious... I'd like to throw out there that even though it's a low-end remote, as compared to the rest of the product line, the Harmony 300 makes a GREAT MediaCenter remote.
You can find them anywhere (Amazon, RadioShack, Target, etc...). They feel very nice. Good weight. Button...

If your using a Harmony to control windows media center than you must already have some kind of IR receiver hooked up to the PC. I also recommend EventGhost which will let you launch whatever you want. EG is free, there is almost a 100% chance that your IR receiver will already be supported in EG...
