Hello,

Is there a way to allow for playback of x265 files in WMC without having to exit and use VLC?

Thanks!

You will need to install the correct codec's.

http://emby.media/community/index.php?/ ... 265-codec/

https://github.com/Nevcairiel/LAVFilters/releases

I have never needed that particular format. Maybe someone else has?

To suggest that installing LAV is going to fix this is incorrect.
Using some tool to force Media Center to use LAV will break DRM playback.

The safest and easiest solution is to use the STANDARD Codecs.
Be sure to have uninstalled LAV before installing this suggestion.

After installation, all you need to do is check the [x] SUGGESTED settings checkbox.

OK! What is up with H265 and WMC? Who is going too H265 Fios, Comcast and does that make cable card playback of HBO or Stars not possible?

I asked about it because there are more and more MKV in 265 format. They are a 1/4 of the size and the video is great! I want to copy them to the disk and watch from with WMC!

FiOS has only gone to h264 on a small percentage of their channels (and they work fine with WMC, although I think some issues with extenders if they are copy protected). But if they ever did decide to go with h265, it would be nice to know if it would work with WMC (including copy protected channels).

Be careful with Shark 007 - downloaded from Major Geeks - Norton said it had Trojan.Gen.2 and wnavga.exe. Both of them were critical and removed. The codecs still work, so not "really" needed. There was also a addin that was stopped by MS Virus checker during install that was stopped.

Contrary to what norton may tell you, the installer contains 2 adware offers that are plainly visible and can be declined/skipped and no virus. There are also 2 different ways to avoid the adware altogether. 1. Disconnct from the internet before executing the installer. or 2. Extract the installer with 7zip to completely strip away the adware to a fully clean installer.

Sorry but Norton stopped settings twice - saying the activity it does is very suspicious - opening UDP ports and trying to converse with other websites - that is NOT normal!

At the end I went with K-Lite - no Norton issues so far

I've always had issues with Norton. Glad you feel you have a viable solution.
