This also appears to be an issue with SchedulesDirect (SD), it is returning HTML instead of JSON formatted text. EPG123 could be updated to handle this condition better (at least by giving a more appropriate error message and not crashing), but the ultimate issue is that there was something wrong with the SD server when this update was run and when this condition occurs, the server returns HTML when EPG123 is expecting JSON. I don't know if this follows the API specifications or not.

Semantics, but EPG123 does not crash. It simply reports the entire exception stack rather than simply saying "HTTP request failed with status code "500 Server Error"".

Sorry, usually when you see the stack like that it is due to a crash, but yes, it is not actually crashing, it is just presenting a lot of info that the normal user will have no idea what it means, but helps the developer to debug the issue. Ideally you would print a more user friendly message in the normal log and then perhaps that stack trace in a debug log, but it probably is more expedient to do it the way it is now so you don't have to ask for a second log.

Do you have a lot of cached images? That's the only thing that can really slow down starting the service. It is scanning your images cache folder.

Okay. I'll work on this. If it takes the service more than 30 seconds to initialize (load image cache and scan images, initialize Schedules Direct, ...) it will give this error. Right now I am initializing everything on start of the service which may take longer than 30 seconds while all the other services on the machine are starting up as well. I'll see about throwing all the initialization in a separate thread so the service can start "immediately"... it just won't be ready to service any requests until the thread is complete.

I assume this is a problem with Schedules Direct (many Md5 parse failures), but I wonder if it is something I should contact them about or if it will fix itself... I'm used to a few of these occurring occasionally, but this seems to be every channel...

Also, as a curiosity, why do PEG* channels only generate an [INFO] Md5 messages and the others are [WARNG] when it appears to be the same error.

Folks, everyone is seeing this.

I'm currently running 1.7.3.0.

Traditionally I've updated as soon as a new version publishes. I was unavailable for a few months around the time 1.8.x.x came out and didn't update. When I finally got around to looking I saw all the issues as well as the number of program revisions that were published in quick succession, so I decided to wait and see how it shook out.

The version I'm running has experienced none of the 1.8.x.x issues (or any issues for that matter) and my logs and guide are pristine so I'm a little gun shy about updating. Will there be a point where I'll have to update?

A minor issue that appears to have started with 1.8.1.5 and continues in 1.8.1.6:

For my W7 system with WMC, I have disabled Internet access by zeroing out the network gateway address. This allows local network access but not Internet access (for security, since W7 is no longer getting any updates).

I run the EPG123 server on my W10 system (which has Internet access) to create the epg123.mxf file and then import it over the LAN using the EPG123 client on V7. This setup works great - thanks Gary.

The import still works OK, but due to the lack of Internet access on W7, I've started getting the following each day in the log on W7 with 1.8.1.5 and 1.8.1.6. Prior to 1.8.1.5, this wasn't happening:

Not a bug. I'm surprised you weren't getting this on earlier 1.8.x versions. It is just checking to see if an update for epg123 is available from Github. If it fails to reach github, it just logs it as information only. There is no warning or error so if you didn't have a reason to look at the log files, you wouldn't know it was happening.

I have two questions regarding the info in the above log file...

1) Do you have any idea why the MXF import failed? After the failure, I started up the client and manually imported the same MXF file (you can tell from the timestamp) and it worked fine. This was the first update after upgrading to 1.8.2.1 (previous successful updates were with 1.8.2.0). Perhaps it has something to do with the initial update after an upgrade? As I've indicated, I never had this problem before, so it would be a huge coincidence it was not related to the EPG23 upgrade, although I admit it does seem like more of a transient issue.

2) After I used the client to import the existing MXF file, the status bug within WMC was green (as expected), but the systray icon was still red indicating that "There was an error during last update" and the timestamp was 7:44:29 PM (the date the MXF file was created). This might make sense if there were any errors from when the MXF file was being created, but the only error was from when it attempted to import the MXF file the first time. I would think that the second successful import should have cleared the systray error, unless that status is only changed by updates that were initiated by the Task Scheduler.

1) I have seen this happen quite a few times among users, myself every once in a while. Sometimes loadmxf.exe just fails. I don't know if WMC was busy doing some housework at the time or it was just having some difficulty making decisions with the new import. There is also a possibility that this is a precursor to your database failing in the future.

2) The manual import from the client doesn't go through the routine to update registries and status logo like a normal update does. That button can be used to import any mxf file (not necessarily guide listings) and the client doesn't know what is actually being imported. I might change that behavior and/or have it look at the contents to determine if it is guide listings or not.
