MCEBuddy is just about done with the old files I was having it work through. Once it is done, sometime today, I will close it down and see how WMC performs over the next 24 hours or so to see if the errors continue or not.Crash2009 wrote:MCEBuddy ....

No more msvcrt problem.....Not sure if this is progress or not.
Wonder what the significance of 11 am is. Do a bunch of series recordings start at this time?
Ehvid app crash appears to be fixed by finding the "bad recording" in the recorded tv folder.

4 recordings start at this time. However, I do pad all recordings (10 minutes at the start and 10 minutes at the end) to deal with WMC's issue about recording programs back-to-back on the same channel. 2 recordings are coming to an end at this time, then the 4 new ones start 10 minutes before 11. There are multiple instances throughout the day where this occurs without issue for the same number of recordings.Crash2009 wrote:No more msvcrt problem.....Not sure if this is progress or not.

I'm going to completely empty my recording folder and see how it likes that.Ehvid app crash appears to be fixed by finding the "bad recording" in the recorded tv folder.

Fresh Install means.... The OS with all the updates done. Drivers for the tuners, and WMC configured. No 3rd party stuff installed and defiantly no 3rd party TB size batch conversion running. Personally I think the batch conversion is what is causing the drivers to fail. But hey, we are curious to see how it gets broken.

If the issues persist once MCEBuddy is done later today, I will probably try a fresh install this weekend. And I just checked the other system I have access to and it is a nearly identical build (i7-3770, 8GB, 1TB HDD, etc) but it is an HP, so I might try that as well.Crash2009 wrote:Fresh Install means.... I just had a hunch that yours might be at around 11 am. Somewhere there is a place where you can view all your scheduled Tasks, you might have something at 11 am daily.
Those guide errors usually fix themselves on the next update.
I was just looking at your codecs from Post 20.....
Here is a screen capture of codecs from msinfo32 in a 7 box that is rock solid.
Reliability Monitor can be accessed with perfmon /rel
There were a few ups and downs until I finally got it right in Nov. Its been 100% since then.
Those red X's will tell you what the problem is/was blue/yellow are just info.

Run Taskschd.msc from elevated will list your scheduled tasks, that 11 am thing might be listed there.
Click Active down near the bottom will show all.

Just thought of something. Why don't we install MCEBuddy on a different machine. Then set up a task when WMC is not busy, to take all the new recorded TV for today and process it, then put it back at a later time. Or something similar to that.

I just got this other tower out and I'm going to start working on it at the same time, and then hopefully one of these systems will work correctly and then I can just repurpose the other.
But my question is: Should I stay with Windows 7, or should I let it update to Windows 8 (I usually hide all of the Windows 8-related updates) .... or should I just install a full version of Windows 8 right at the start?
Is WMC generally more stable in 7 or 8 or does it not matter?

I would stick with windows 7. There is little difference but if you have a echo extender guide will not display, use open WMC on start does not exist, or other minor issues that I can't think of at the moment. There is also the hassle of needing a key to install it.JohnT900 wrote:Followup on the fresh install idea...Crash2009 wrote:Fresh Install means.... The OS with all the updates done. 10 WMC is great but unsupported or sanctioned by Microsoft, plus not likely to ever have extenders working.

I was thinking 7 was the safe play.
This system, once I get it stable, won't be using or doing anything fancy - no extenders, etc. - just a base install that records programs that are then moved to another server for post processing, etc. WMC isn't used other that for the recording function.
Ok, so it looks like I should just stick with Win7. I'm about to start in on this other tower I have here... so we'll see how she handles things.

John has 3 HDHR's, I don't think he needs any extenders, and we haven't totally given up on that one.
10 has a startup folder, yes it is hidden, but its there
Use a licensed 7 and upgrade to 10 for free.
