Any uypdates? Anyone hear from the Heatwave developer? I'm still using weatherstation (shows up on extenders, too, but each one needs to be registered separately), but would jump back to Heatwave in a second if it was working again.

Unfortunately I would guess that no one has been able to contact the developer…
I guess I better load this “weatherstation” and give it a try…

Any luck contacting James the developer yet? For those of you who don't know, he originally released that back in about 2005. That's several lifetimes ago in computer years.
We used to find him on http://www.talkcomputer.com (they still have forum posts going back to 3/2005)
...and he had a web site http://www.mcextended.com
I'm a developer and would be happy to help out with resurrecting this handy tool. If you're like me, you used it all the time! Would love to convert it over to the accuweather feed.

Scott, welcome and thanks for the additional leads... Yes I too used it all the time... I have not heard anything back, no idea how else to get a hold of him...Scott wrote:Any luck contacting James the developer yet? James McCarthy is such a common name google turns up many leads but not sure how to ID "the" James McCarthy
... The domain name expired and link to paypal in the top of this thread returns a e-mail address that linked to paypal I would think would be active but no luck...

I just registered to offer two suggestions for fixing Heatwave: one easy and one difficult.
Easy fix: add an entry to the HOSTS file located at C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc so that attempts to go to weather.com will be redirected to another source (someone mentioned weather.gov).
The format for the entry to be added to HOSTS is:
new-IP-address http://www.weather.com
You may have to be an administrator to make this change, etc. Be sure to save the file as HOSTS (and not HOSTS.TXT) by adding quotes to the filename when saving in Notepad (ie, "HOSTS").
It is highly probable that this easy fix will not work since the website at new-IP-address will not likely have the same paths to files found at weather.com that HeatWave requires. If this is the case, move on to the difficult fix.
Difficult fix: mirror the directory structure at weather.com so that those files needed by HeatWave are found at the same location on another website. This fix would also require the entry to the HOSTS file as listed above in the Easy fix section.
Let's suppose that weather.com has the XML file for your ZIP code located at http://www.weather.channel/current-conditions/ZIP/12345 (and we will have to assume that HeatWave goes to this folder to read that file.) Simply create a website that has this same path (.../current-conditions/ZIP/12345) and add the IP address of the new website to HOSTS -- but still listing http://www.weather.com since that is where HeatWave is looking for the data.
I hope I have inspired someone to take this idea and run with it!
(Note: the forum only allows 3 URLs in a post so I had to shorten many URLs above to weather.com.)

The correct directory structure at weather.com is xoap.weather.com/weather/local/<location_id> (http://xoap.weather.com/weather/local/GMXX0128/ for example). Be aware that the format of the locatoin_id is diffrent if you call googleweather or accuweather so you have to map not only the data but also the location and then you have the create a valid weather.com-XML.
A website only perhaps will not work, you have to get acces direct to the root directory. I'm working on a solution with a local server.

I don't know if this is luck, a big mistake, or just a temporary thing -- but has anyone noticed Heatwave is working? At least it is for the moment...
Ran across some postings at SageTV that seemed to indicate they had similar issues... but that it "just" started working again. Maybe weather.com turned off the auth requirement? Or someone accidentally turned off the config?

Much as I'd like to believe they changed their mind, I can't find anything to recommend that premise... I'm more betting they've made a config error, pushed a mistake that reopened it. If so, wonder how long before they figure that out and get auth restored (and it quits again). Fingers crossed it stays - nostalgic at least, forgot how much I kinda missed this plugin.

Although it just /did/ update with some plausible numbers, cross-checked on their web site.
