Video being clipped

#1

Post by drtdiver » Sat Jan 31, 2015 6:30 pm

Wmc seems to be clipping video when a show is going to commercial. The audio and video will go blank for a split second when then the commercial starts. This also happens when going from one commercial to another. This is really annoying because it cuts off the last word being said right before commercial.
This also doesn't happen with everything. The worst offender is Comedy Central.

Live? Or after being recorded? and just to be complete, no other things messing with the video (like trying to skip commercials)? Might even be the local cable/source as they insert their own commercials into the stream fed to them. One way to tell, is if it happens "live" on WMC and also live on the source channel...more details would help.

Yes happens on both live and recorded tv. Nothing is messing with the recordings no commercial skipping. I noticed this after switching to a new tv. The old tv did not suffer from this. I think it might have to do with the type of audio stream coming through.

I think you are on the right track. So far, the majority of vid issues i've seen / read, are audio settings related. Obviously, your old tv accepted the signal / settings. Can you setup the new tv with the same settings?

I've gone through everything I can think of and nothing changes. Only thing left to try is find a new gpu. I'm using a gt430 right now. The Intel igp had awful 29 59 stutter that no settings would remedy. So I've been trying to find another card that handles 29 59 problems the best right now.

Pc hooked straight to tv via hdmi. I might try out my 360 as an extender to see how that behaves. But I've never really been too keen on extenders they never really behave quite like a pc hooked straight up.

Can't you force WMC to think it is plain vanilla 2 speaker stereo? Is there a way to run separate audio (Not over HDMI?)

Ok so I connected my Xbox and setup as an extender. The issue does not exist when using it this way. But the picture quality does not match as if it's hooked directly to the tv. Menu an guide look fine but video doesn't look as clean and crisp.

Checked that setting and it didn't make a difference.

I didn't post the first time given that you said "split second," and the mode switches take a second or two IME, but when you later said it was with Nvidia, and it was affecting a 1080i channel, it needed to be ruled out.

I'll try and post a video of what I'm seeing happen tonight maybe I'm not using the correct terminology.

Here's a short video that cuts off when going to a commercial. This does not exhibit this behavior when viewed through an extender.
