That shouldn't be necessary. It's incredibly easy for Microsoft to set up a process to monitor and detect the problem and notify the appropriate people. If guide_days < 10 then email bob@microsoft.com.

Looks like the problem has been resolved, for now at least...
Confirmed: Verizon FiOS Zip 21093 (Central Maryland). EpgListings.enc file now dated Dec 22, had been Dec 18.

It will be interesting to see what happens between Christmas and New Year's Day ...

You may have to run guide setup again.
Setup fails as well.

I am a wmc 2005 user and I still have no downloads of the guide since the 17th of November the same as broadcast house above post 457 - this is running on xp - and yes I am aware xp not supported but not sure this means the guide updates should stop . I am in the uk and have checked with content provider that they are still providing msft the content

I just want to know if to give up and abandon or keep trying to fix - can't upgrade as to much xp content at risk

Any further ideas from anyone seems that broadcast house above updates stopped happening on the same day so suspect it's not my pc

I Am seeing the sdf file is downloading every couple of days about the same time the popup error says the guide failed with a 33 error.

Is there a stand alone program I can use to open these sdf files?

Is this not the updated guide? Really hoping for some one to have the answer and fix for this.

BroadcastHouse and RussJohn this one's for you. From what I've found it seems that MS has stopped our 2005 machines guides from updating. I could not get any other guide downloader to work, but I did accidentally find a workaround from one of my earlier posts. It does require you obtain a copy of 2002 XP Media Center Edition (mine was SP1) and a second computer (it can be an old junk computer or probably even a laptop - no TV card is needed with the 2002 version of Media Center). Basically, I have to start-up the 2002 machine once or twice a week (however updated I want my guide) and move some files to my 2005 Media Center Computer. It seems that the 2002 version creates some setup files to trigger a full 2 week download in a 2005 machine when the files are placed in the correct location. Below are directions if you are interested:

1. Install MCE2002 on a different machine.
2. On the 2002 machine Set up the guide exactly how you did on the MCE2005 machine. Just skip the IR sensor missing page and click next to continue without a remote. Make sure you select the right TV provider - remember to scroll down if necessary to select. DO NOT FINISH THE GUIDE SETUP, click back on that last screen until you get to the Welcome screen again.
3. In the 2002 machine go to the folder c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\eHome\EPG - there you will find four files with an alphanumeric code for a name but extensions of .guide, .programs, .scheduleentries, .xml - Copy these files to a flash drive.
4. Stop all services related to Media Center on the MCE2005 computer. (Control Panel>>Administrative Tools>>Services)
5. On the MCE2005 machine go to c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\eHome\EPG and create a backup folder, then move the 3 files in that folder with the extensions .xml, .sdf, and epg.sdf to the backup folder.
6. Copy and paste the 4 files from the flash drive (files from the 2002 machine) into that folder (c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\eHome\EPG)
7. Turn your services back on - as soon as you turn the services back on the 4 files will trigger a 2 week download of the guide. It will take about 10-15 minutes to download.

Do this however often you want your guide updated...

I don't think I have a MCE2002 edition I think it always was 2005 but I'll check.

I just started getting this error. I didn't have the problem back in september. I tried modifying my host file and changing my DNS as suggested, however that has not fixed the problem. The update gets to about 11% when trying to update ListingData.MXF and then errors every time. I'm running 7mc. Is anyone else having this problem? How can I fix it?

A few pages ago, some one raised the question if this was a 64-bit problem...that his 32-bit installation did not have the guide update trouble (see Haven).

Has anyone determined if that's a real issue? I'm having frequent episodes where the Program guide isn't updating, and can happily revert the machine to a 32-bit installation if that works better.

I have probably spent 4 hours with Microsoft Customer Service today for this issue, and the only thing they are interested in is trying to charge me $99 so they can perform 'advanced troubleshooting' and 'remote into my system so they can fix the issue'.

Microsoft Customer Service is not the answer.

I'm running out of guide data!

Any specific error messages in the event log?
I suppose as you get more desperate you can try either rerunning Live TV Setup, or even doing a media center reset and reconfiguration.

As a data point, I run 7MC on x64, and other than an occasional issue do not have problems. Seriously doubt x64 has much to do with it.

Microsoft may have partially fixed this issue! I went back and removed the 2 address's in the "hosts" file, which jason had mentioned would be needed upon a fix from Microsoft, and below is what I got after a flush and forced WMC guide update.

I've left the host file modification in place for the past few weeks and haven't gotten any failures. Even this morning was "Update Successful"

Been getting automatic error free updates using original hosts file since mid-December, except for successful updates with the same end date for a few days about that time.

Over-the-air, Zap2it, Central California

Locked
