Windows 8.1 Media Center Guide not loading

#1

Post by Johnnyhorn » Wed Aug 27, 2014 10:34 pm

First off I would like to apologize if this is a duplicate post I could not seem to find my answer in the forum.

WMC does not show any show listings. All it says is "No data available". I have forced update also. In the about guide section of settings It tells me "Guide End Date: Guide listings are not available" also the end date is 9/9/14. How do I solve this problem?

I will give you any more information that you need. Just as long as you can help me know where to get it.

Thank you.

Did you try to force a guide update with the mcupdate.exe -uf command?

Sorry about that, it is in the ehome folder. This will force a download from the guide data server. If your guide still shows no data after this, you should take a look at the event viewer and see what error is reported:

c:\windows\ehome\mcupdate.exe -uf

Re-run the TV setup and try a different zip code that's nearby.

It looks like the download is working correctly, but if you aren't seeing anything show up in the guide then maybe something is not configured correctly.

Have you been receiving guide data correctly in the past and this problem just started happening? Or is this the first time you are setting up the guide and you can't get it to work?

This is the first time to set up and cannot get it to work. Is there a way to look at the download and then the channel names to see if they match?

Are you using over the air or cable? If cable, what cable system? When you run tv set-up you choose the type of tuner (ATSC, ClearQAM, CableCARD) and then your service area.

More and more cable systems are starting to encrypt their entire signal so if that is your case you'd need a cableCARD tuner (TWC is an example).

It almost sounds like you're choosing a provider that the tuner can't see. The cableCARD tuner provides the channel numbers to Media Center and the Guide puts the names with those numbers. If you are using ATSC you should be able to verify if the tuner is working with their viewer. You look like you're getting a guide but it's the wrong one for your card. If you're running ATSC or clearQAM, then Media Center has to scan for channels as part of tv set-up.

Make sure you're using the proper drivers for 8.1 with your card.

BTW if you run a guide update from a command line, you need to use an elevated command prompt. The easier way to run a guide update is to either go to Media Center Guide and right click on a channel number and choose get latest guide or go to tasks and TV and Guide and choose update guide.

If the tuner is working, even with no guide data, you should be able to click on a program block (no data) next to a channel number and if the tuner is working, get video and sound. If that's the case you downloaded the wrong provider.

I am not having issues with watching channels with the card. They work fine. I just cannot get the Guide data to populate.

Sounds like you're choosing the wrong guide and it doesn't match the channel line-up.

If you're sure you're using the right line-up you can manually line-up channels. Right click on a channel number in the guide and choose edit channel, then click edit listings. If you have any listings you can find the channel for that number and associate it. This should all be automatic with just a few touch ups needed in some situations. If you have no listings to choose from, then you are not downloading a guide at all and you'll have to find one that works.

Including information as to what you're using the tuner for (over the air, cable) and you location and zip code would help in trying to find a solution for your issue.

Have you tried changing the listings for a channel to see if the EPG is there but channel naming convention is messed up?
in the UK some (not all!) channels appear with no guide until you allocate them..
in WMC go to
Tasks>settings>tv>guide>edit channels
click on a channel and then chose edit listings from the menu to the left. this SHOULD give you all you epg listed channels, if there's nothing there ???
if there is chose the appropriate channel and see if it populates.
