Guide Data Quality Of Late

#1

Post by STC » Fri May 02, 2014 1:45 am

Mine appears to have been going down the pan the last week or two.

Five different recordings all crapped out with a different show. Wife had three of them and is not amused

Anyone else?

I have as well. Many descriptions are wrong or incomplete. The Daily Show, for example, often has nothing about the guest anymore, when it used to have that info. And I've had a heck of a time recording Midwife, Blechley Circle and Top Gear. The new/re-run info is always wrong, so I have to record by time and find new on my own. I've been attributing this to the fact they run in the UK weeks or months before they run in North America. But it's usually not this bad and only affected a few showings in the past. So you may be onto something. Zap2It just did a major overhaul to their site. Perhaps their database was affected too.

It may just be the time of year as we transition into summer. Search for "placeholders" on this forum and you'll probably see some history of what you're describing.

^ That would be the case for new shows or different time airings but this is just for regular recordings for regular shows that have not changed slots.

BTW Nice tube!

Well there is evidence of crappy guide data lately but you still may be a victim of networks in the midst of planning or lack there of.

Is this the first time you had this EXACT issue?

Science channel is the worst offender. They often switch out the shows, but it is not reflected in the guide.

Yes.-
The shows haven't changed slot but guide data thinks it's changed to a different time and records unwanted material.
Three of the (daily) shows have settled down again after a week or so of inaccurate data.

Notice the date of the post I linked above. Same time of year.

I don't think it's a coincidence. YOU may be experiencing different symptoms than you saw in 2012 but the source of the issue is similar.

Mere speculation on my part.

Right, but this isn't the usual mess up of data as the shows shift slots or complete and new ones take their place.

It may be related but it's kind of whacky, and hasn't happened like this to me before.

Wonder if Bob and Doug are experiencing the same thing? http://vreaa.wordpress.com/2012/01/14/b ... with-mike/

Seriously though, I think I saw that on mine before. It was like the page was torn diagonally and not put back together correctly. Not sure if this is the same thing, and I don't remember what I did to get it back. I'll think about it.

I've missed several series recordings over the last couple weeks because new programs have been tagged as rerun. It isn't a new development but seems to be more common lately.

Part of my morning routine is going to the TitanTv website and verifying the day's scheduled recordings. There is ALWAYS one or two adds/deletes. Can't say whether the number of corrections has recently changed. I just do it, every day, because I hate the hassle of finding and watching crappy quality, commercial filled, episodes online.

Zap2it just seems to get more annoying. Have 2 series ("Motive" and the new "The Night Shift") punched in to record new episodes. For whatever reason that's never worked with Motive, always marked as repeat, had to change that to reruns too. The Night Shift pilot scheduled OK - but the second episode didn't (didn't explicitly say repeat, OAD was the night of showing, but wasn't on schedule list).

Listings for Bravo way wrong, doesn't match reality - or the Zap2it Web site. You'd think the web site would match the data feed for same cable system....

Guess this has become (actually just more so) part of the game, doing the nightly guide policing for missing and misrecorded stuff.

Motive, Continuum, and others have already aired in Canada. Zap2it doesn't recognize this (and doesn't care to correct it). That's why I manually cross reference WMC with TitanTv daily, because they mark the Canadian shows as new here in the USA.

Sounds like this issue?

^ Not specifically one of this thread no.

There's always third party guide data to fall on should MS leave the circus.
