TV Tuner update from Microsoft

#1

Post by oliroe » Mon Oct 10, 2011 8:49 am

Hi

Just wondered whether anyone has been brave enough to download the update below. I've got a persistent issue with the loss of a Blackgold HD tuner that I'm hoping this will cure

Geez, that update is from March 2010. How can you not have it installed already?

I suspect he was confused by Ian posting an article about it this morning on TDL.

Sorry about that, the article on Microsoft's site is dated as October 2011 but the patch is from 2010.

Looks like I'll have to wait for Blackgold to correct the issue

It appears the only thing that happened is Microsoft revised the KB yesterday (that makes revision #4 for the KB).

Didn't Ballmer have everyone on the eHome team shot?

A maintenance man tracking down a power surge found the eHome team locked in an outbuilding on the Microsoft campus. Seems that they had been there since 2009 waiting for the official go ahead to release all their updates and improvements after the Windows 7 initial launch.

@oliroe

Check this link to see if there's an updated BlackGold driver for your tuner
http://shop.blackgold.tv/epages/BT3159. ... nt_Drivers

My BGT3620 was always losing a tuner until I installed v8.1 of the drivers.

Afraid it doesn't solve mine. Blackgold even mention the obscure tuner loss issue with their 8.1.1.1 driver

The only other suggestion I have is to disable opportunistic scanning as follows

1.Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
2.Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\GLID
3.On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
4.Type DisableActualStreamOpportunisticScanning to name the new entry, and then press ENTER.
5.Right-click DisableActualStreamOpportunisticScanning, and then click Modify.
6.In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
7.Exit Registry Editor.

@oliroe
Did you find a resolution to your tuner loss problem?
Although I didn't see it with a 3620, I do see it with a 3650.
