Corrupt Microsoft.MediaCenter.shell.dll file
I was having some issues with wmc and I ran sfc /scannow to find out I have a corrupt Microsoft.MediaCenter.shell.dll file.
How do I fix the file?

Try this .. (Disclaimer: keep in mind I am not responsible if this removes any custom WMC settings you have previously made or Borks your system... =P)pd veeps wrote:I was having some issues with WMC and I ran sfc /scannow to find out I have a corrupt Microsoft.MediaCenter.shell.dll file.
How do I fix the file?
Open Control Panel > Programs and Features
On the left click on Turn Windows Features On or Off
In the list that opens click the + next to Media Features
Uncheck the box next to Windows Media Center.
Click Ok.
This will Uninstall Windows Media Center from your PC. When it is done uninstalling, Reboot the PC.
After Reboot go back into Control Panel > Programs and Features > Windows Features again and check mark the box for Windows Media Center and let it Reinstall it.
Hopefully replacing your corrupt file.

Did that and got wmc to work but running scannow still says the same file is corrupt. Wmc seems a little buggy but ok. The first live tv channel after startup or waking the htpc give a blank screen, but hopefully that's the amd display driver like someone else posted about. I just hate having file errors.newfiend wrote:Try this .. You could also do a repair installation of windows. That should replace any corrupt files.

Couple questions about a repair install.newfiend wrote:You could also do a repair installation of windows. That should replace any corrupt files.
1) will I lose any of my settings?
2) do I need my product key?

Just a thought:
Did you check that the c:\windows\ehome folder was deleted when you uninstalled Media Center?
I'll post an original .DLL file later if you want - do a manual copy-paste in safe mode to replace it?

If you do a reinstall it is possible that not all the settings will be retained and you may also need the product key. You could also do the suggestion of HollidayBoy and copy and paste a file he is willing to share with you. Is it just the one file that comes back corrupt?

That would be great if you can. It's causing wmc to crash once in a whileholidayboy wrote:Just a thought:

Thanks for the upload . I got the file replaced and no more corrupt files when I run sfc /scannow. I guess certain settings in my channel logos XL cause the file to be corrupt. The mini guide I had set at 4 rows went back to 2 when I replaced the file.
All my logos stayed. Everything seems to be running smooth. We will see.
