I was wondering if it is possible to play mkv files and str subtitles files in wmc. Are there any add ons so get these files to play some of the mkv files also have dual audio.

If you chose to use the Shark007 Codecs, all formats such as mkv and flv (or whatever) are supported within Media Center including imbedded and external srt subtitles. After installation all you need to do is select the [x] SUGGESTED settings checkbox. Another advantage to using the Shark007 Codecs is having all your files fully thumbnailed (including 10bit/H265 files) within Explorer views along with properties such as dimension are displayed too.

you would need to place Media Center into Windowed Mode so you can access the systray icons. (near the clock)
During playback, right click the white LAV splitter icon or the Green arrow if it is available...

I'm quite good at guessing solutions from the symptoms you have described and the responses I've read I am willing to bet the dual audio is coming from an avi file and not an mkv. Go to the AVI TAB and select to use LAV as the splitter for avi playback.
