Upgraded to Haswell / Win8 nightmares

With Windows 8 on the new Asus Z87 Pro based PC I built, the USB driver situation is insane to put it mildly. During install the keyboard and mouse are extremely flaky even on the USB 2.0 ports. As in I dug out a USB to PS/2 adapter to make the installation practical. Installing drivers after Windows install fixes this, but my external USB3.0 backup drive remains unusable.

Tried the 8.1 RTM. This fixes the USB issues, but introduces a new problem -- in 8.1 the Digital Cable Advisor fails (in fact every item in the Extras Gallery Crashes!) Without the Digital Cable Advisor passing, I can't install the InfiniTV.

Edit: May have found a workaround.... we'll see where this goes.
I think the steps that ended up working are

1. Download digital cable advisor as an add-in from http://www.nkonecny.com/blog/2012/01/06 ... e-advisor/ instead of using the one in the gallery.

2. Run Mikinho's OverrideDigitalCableAdvisor.cmd tool from http://missingremote.com/guide/override ... a-center-7 If you haven't completed step one, the script will abort without doing anything because it can't find the windows 8 versions of the .NET assemblies it's trying to use.

3. Run the Digital Cable Advisor from "Extras Library", not "Extras Gallery". It will still "Not Respond", but from here it gives you the option of whether to kill it or leave it running (leave it running!)

4. Go through TV setup - it will now allow you to activate the CableCARD.
