WMC crashes when executed from a Remote Desktop session

I learned something new today. I setup a new PC, and when I try to run Media Center from a remote desktop session, it immediately crashes. This doesn't happen on my other PC's.

I searched and found this thread:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... 87cefdce2b

It turns out that the user GeorgeF_MSFT is correct. I never knew that I could assign different permissions to registry keys just like you can with directories in the file system. But... you can, and George's solution fixed my problem.

Here's how:

Open the Registry Editor, and browse to this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\Rdp-Tcp
a) Right-click the Rdp-Tcp key, and choose Permissions
b) Add the "Users" group, and give it "Read" permission.

Voila! Media Center works in remote desktop (with no video playback, of course, but I can manage recordings etc.).

Thanks! WMC through RDP worked on my old installation but not on my new one but I didn't care to look into it. Just did the registry tweak and looks like I can open WMC through a RDP session again!

Thanks for the tip. I have just been right clicking on the wmc shortcut and running as administrator for a workaround.
