DMA2200 locking up
My, rather aged, Xbox has started flashing two red lights after 5-30 minutes of use. I've blown dust out of it, but it's just had it. As I only use it as an extender, I found a cheap DMA2200 on fleaBay and am trying it out. Boy is it quiet, after years of the Xbox jet engine noise, this is probably the quietest thing in my house!
However, after being on for a few minutes, and it really is only 2-3 minutes, the DMA2200 stops responding to the remote - even to the buttons on the front. It needs a hard power off to get back. What's weird, is that if I manage to start a video playing before it stops responding, then it will keep playing the video, it just won't do anything else.
I've done the obvious things like new batteries in the remote, factory reset, reconnect to 7MC and so on. But to no avail. Obviously I'm going to hassle the seller, but is this a known problem? Is there a fix? Or have I just bought an expensive, and large paperweight?

Known problem.
It's trying to download a firmware update, and Cisco has turned off the server.
Set the DNS server address to 0.0.0.0, and you should be OK.

Actually, I just checked the settings on my DMA2100, and I have valid DNS servers defined, so it may be something else.foxwood wrote:Known problem.

Now I'm very confused. This issue has definitely occurred before, I'm just not sure why my Extenders don't appear to be having a problem.

Thank you. I've just read that thread. Some seemed to not have the problem, but the 0.0.0.0 change fixed it for others. I shall try this tonight.

I set my DNS to 0.0.0.0 last night and initial results are good. I messed up setting the IP address initially, meaning that the PC blocked access. By the time I got that sorted I didn't have much time to test it properly, but will check it again tonight when I should have more time.
Thanks for the advice foxwood.

Yeah, I'm going to call this as working now. I got home yesterday to find the 6yr old hammering iPlayer on the DMA2200. Trust me, I'd have heard if it wasn't working! I watched a programme on it last night as well, and all seemed well.
Now to find out what file types it does/doesn't like. m2ts seem to be struggling so far, and it has taken a real dislike to the mov files that my camera creates.
Thanks again for the help.
