Ok so either way the proc can push hd audio and audio through the hdmi port. This is good.
A few more questions. (sorry this takes a bit)
Are you connected to an Audio Video Reciever or directly to your tv?
If you have an AVR does it have the ability to bitstream, and if so do you want to?
When you watch or record a program via the usb tuner does it record or play as a wtv file?
Have you tried multiple HDMI cords? (this is to rule out that you just don't have a bad cord, it happens)

Here's a simple suggestion. The folks over at XBMC recommend uninstalling the Realtek Audio control panel. If you remove this, I'm assuming the drivers will remain intact.

Try that out. If it resolves, great! If not, simply reinstall and try other things.

Try this. I also removed all sound drivers. The only one listed in control panel now is my AV receiver.

All my problems gone now.
