H.264 Video Decoder for Win 7 SP1

You guys told me to be cautious with updates so I shut them off. This one looks interesting, allthough for some reason I am reluctant to install it. WMC and my Echo's have been running so well lately, I don't really want to rock the boat. I suppose I should re-image and try it out. Yea? or Nay?

I've never had an issue with updates and have my HTPC auto update. My system has been rock stable for a couple of years and it runs 24/7 as a DVR.

This is part of the platform update for Win 7 SP 1 that installs some Win 8 modules mainly to allow installation/use of IE10. I installed it with no issues.

I made an image, applied the updates. WMC and Echo's are still working. Thanks for the nudge. How do I jump start the IE10 download?

Spellchecker just started working, well sort of. Doesn't offer any suggestions, but at least it highlights spelling mistakes. Did this start happening as a result of IE 10 ? or has TheGreenButton just started this?

It's always done that for me in Chrome. On Win 8 I use Chrome and my Win 7 boxes with IE 10 are the HTPCs so I don't do any browsing on them; so I couldn't tell you.

IE10 is supposed to have spellchecking - it's also supposed to auto-correct, which can be a real pain in technical groups where jargon is "corrected" in unanticipated ways!

http://ie.microsoft.com/testdrive/Brows ... fault.html

IE is definitely a bit late to this particular feature - it was one of the things that prompted me to migrate to Firfox a long time ago (vertical tabs was the other major feature - it's the main reason IE10 still isn't my go-to browser in Windows 8. My screen is much wider than any web page needs, so I have plenty of room for tabs down the side, and it makes more space at the top so that my pages are longer).

I see, underline in red if there is no suggestion, and will automatically change the word if it thinks it knows it.

Bummer - I hope that can be turned off.

Stop Spellchecker from correcting.

Haven't found an off button yet. However right-click gives a few choices http://www.geek.com/articles/news/inter ... y-2011119/

Looks like that just tells IE to not correct future occurrences of that particular mis-spelling, it doesn't turn auto-correct off entirely).

I'm all in favour of red or green squiggles warning me that I fat-fingered something (a not infrequent occurrence), but I like to make my own corrections, thank you very much. That way I might even learn that there are 2 r's in occurrence!)

Havn't tried it yet, but it appears that I can turn it off using.....Tools>>Manage Add-ons>>Spelling Corrections

I think I might have screwed up the IE10 install. Anybody else seeing this? When I go to Upload attachment here at thegreenbutton, the Upload File Box has a black line at the top, and on the left. To me, it looks like a video card problem.

Then, when I click Browse, I am unable to see all my folders that are normally in My Pictures. Such as, the folders named ECHO_UPGRADE and cableCARD.

I just checked my other Win 7-64 box which has installed the Platform Upgrade but not IE 10, and it does not exhibit this behavior.

Strange Huh? I sure was liking that spellchecker.

I uninstalled IE 10 through Programs and Features. IE 9 came back automatically. The black lines in the Upload attachment box have disappeared. The missing folders, while trying to upload, in My Pictures, (ECHO_UPGRADE and cableCARD) have not re-appeared. However, if I click on "Arrange By: Month, Day, Rating or Tag" I can get to the files inside ECHO_UPGRADE and cableCARD folders. Just can't see the folders when trying to upload.
