Extender causing PC to crash

#1

Post by ebelhaki » Sun Jan 13, 2013 8:32 pm

I've been searching for anyone else having this issue and I can't seem to find anybody.

My theory is, occasionally when I turn on my xbox 360 and it connects to my computer, it causes it to crash and turn off. I've checked out the event log and I can't see to find a cause, but that does seem to be the scenario and it doesn't seem consistent... occasionally though my computer will just shut off in the middle of the night, its not going to sleep because I have that turned off. I'm really at a loss, the only warning I see in event log is occasionally my network card loses connection.

I thought at first it had to be windows 7, so I installed windows 8 this weekend and I'm still getting the issue.

Any thoughts?

Hi. See if you can update your network drivers on the HTPC.

Get ones from the maker of the NIC not the motherboard supplier.

It was odd, I tried to update the drivers from the manufacturer, as soon as they started installing, it crashed... so I figured, I'd take it out of my computer and use the onboard nic, it still crashed later that night...

That would indicate another problem. Check event viewer for any clues.

I've narrowed down the issue to dvrms toolbox or comskip. Anybody else using these on windows 8?

Yeah, I paid for the early access for dtb. I installed a fresh copy of windows 8 and it ran fine for a week, I then installed dvrms, dtbaddin, and comskip and 4 hours later it crashed. I'll have to check the log for dvrms since there are no windows event logs created.

I guess I'm blind but I can't find where the dump/log file is for comskip/dvrms toolbox. I've tried to google it but still can't find it. Help?
