Poopli-like service for WMC users?

I really, really miss Poopli from my days as a ReplayTV user. I didn't use it much, but it sure came in handy now and again.

Like right now, for example. My power was out last week Mon and Tues, and I missed two each episodes of Hell's Kitchen and Master Chef. Not a huge deal, but Fox--greed monsters that they are--waits 8 days after airing before they'll put a show up on Hulu. Man, if only I could see them before then.

So I was thinking: with something like Remote Potato or potentially the Ceton software, a 7MC box could stream shows out. That could work. Now all we need is what Poopli already does--something to read the contents of your recorded TV folder and report that to a web system that can match up user requests with the available shows.

Looking for Hell's Kitchen? Do a search to find someone who has it, and ask a fellow user to give you access to Remote Potato streaming, for example.

With some tweaks, this could work. Thoughts?

If only there was a way to download a show from someone who has it..

You know, my thought was that first and foremost, we have to stay under the radar. Transferring high quality shows back and forth would definitely get someone's attention, whereas low quality streaming might not.

But yeah, I agree--how cool would that be to do the complete show-sharing setup within 7MC, just like how Replay did it. But again, that required a central server to keep track of everyone--and who would own that server? More importantly, who would own the problem when the entertainment industry came a-knocking?

Why was Poopli develped? Did the standard method of sharing programs through ReplayTV get shut down like their commercial advance or did folks prefer the Poopli method? I always used the ReplayTV sharing method, then for some reason just stopped using it (probably due to the fairly long wait to get the program). But yes, that would be a really nice option for W7MC. Or Q

The actual method to transfer shows was always the standard ReplayTV method. What Poopli added was a way to match up those requesting shows with those who had shows to share. The Poopli Updater would scan your Replay and upload a listing of your available shows to the Poopli database, which any other user could search.

Without Poopli, show sharing was limited to people who knew each other directly.

I have a good Poopli once or twice a day. Media Center has not affected this. I really don't understand the problem.

From what I can tell, the lack of Poopli is the problem. Sounds to me like it's time for a trip to the pharmacy.
