We're ok, we've got a nice pile of DVDs/Blu Rays/ Recorded TV that we can watch instead, although a lot of the programs we do watch, have come to the end of their seasons now... so we may have to dig into recordings that are now years old

and listings are out on Digiguide. personally i'm looking forward to the olympics even though it means London will be much busier than usual and i might have to walk to work rather than take the tube. But them i'm proud to be a Londoner and this is our opportunity to reinforce why its the greatest city in the world!

And so it begins. London 2012 kicks off this afternoon. In Cardiff...

I've shocked myself. I watched, and (mostly) enjoyed the opening ceremony. Then with my 8yr old we watched some gymnastics and dressage this morning using two of the 24 Olympic channels. I even caught a little of the girls beach volleyball.

Macca was probably the worst part. I really liked the industrial revolution part, particularly the forging of the rings.

I wasn't all that interested in the games before they started but I admit I have been catching a few events.

For anybody using DVB-S(2) tuners - make sure you have the mheg reg key set to 1.

The interactive support is great, you can go to the Olympic red button main page (2012), select on screen items and pick sports etc with the remote perfectly.

I'm loving the 24 HD channels on Freesat via my TBS 6980 S2 card. The only problem I have is that Media Centre doesn't seem to download the guide data automatically - ("No Data found"). However, if I watch one of the channels and then exit back to the guide, the data is loaded for all of the channels on that frequency (i.e. data for 4 channels at a time). This is a bit of a pain as I keep having to do it everyday for 8 channels! Any ideas? All my other freeview HD and Freesat HD channels download data automatically (I use guidetool if that makes any difference).

@holidayboy - What does the MHEG key set to 1 do? I've searched and it seems as though it seems to fix blackscreen issues (which I don't seem to have, thankfully)

EDIT - I've since found the MHEG key fixes the Red button issue - I've never actually used the Red Button functionality on Freesat (just on freeview) - must have a play with that tonight!

The data for these channels is available from MS. Mine is downloading it quite happily every day, and started doing so without any intervention. I don't use Guidetool.

The red button support works really well for the games.

I have no data for a few of the channels but I'm not I interested in recording stuff so I haven't mapped any data to them yet.

I just use the red button menu if I fancy watching something olympic-y for a while.

I feel I must come on here and admit I was wrong. I'm quite getting into this Olympics thing now. Last night I watched the Italian women beat Russia to win the fencing team foil gold, then switched channel to watch Serbia fight back, but still lose to Denmark at Handball. I didn't see Spain-USA waterpolo.

The rush of Team GB medals over the last few days has been pretty amazing as well. A gold and two bronze so far today, with realistic chances of more still to come this afternoon. We are now 10 medals above where we were at this stage in Beijing.

Apologies, but where will I find this mheg reg key as I can't find it in my registry?

Found the MHEG in my regedit, dunno why I missed it first time around!

To make sure the EPG data is updated for the Olympic channels, I had to make sure all the 24 channels were named correctly i.e. BBC Olympic 1 HD, BBC Olympic 2 HD etc using GuideTool, and then right clicking the 24 channels and selecting "Subscribe" by channel name. Now the EPG data seems correct.

Well, I never knew how good the "Red Button" could work on the WMC 7! It works amazingly well which only begs the question, why was it not enabled by default? How strange indeed!!
