PCI Cable Card tuner for non PCI-e desktop?

#1

Post by jerseyclaw » Fri Mar 02, 2012 11:40 pm

i am upgrading a dell 4600 that has plenty of PCI slots available - but pre-dates PCI-e technology - that i want to use for internal tuner.

Infinitv only has PCI-e (i believe anyway). is there a cable card internal PCI tuner out there i can buy?

thanks in advance...

Nope, your options are the Ceton USB tuner OR the Silicondust HDHR Prime which is a network based tuner.

There is a USB version of the InfiniTV. There's also a USB CableCARD tuner available from Hauppauge.

Even if you were to go with a USB or network cable card tuner, the Dell 4600 still may not work with protected content. Make sure your PC passes the Digital Cable Advisor first.

Also, Ceton makes a USB version of the InifiTV4.

It's sounds crazy and I've never tried it but they make a PCI to PCIe adapter. Reviews say they work. With the low profile bracket, the infinitv should fit fine.

I'd go with a usb device or hdhomerun prime network device instead of wasting $45 on an adapter that may not work.

ATI DCT's fit in a PCI slot, connect via USB header on the motherboard, and use the floppy drive power connector. It is a sinlge tuner, but some have reported getting them for $15 n ebay. They won't work if you have FiOS.

True only if simulcrypt is implemented; it's not in all areas.
