No sound from hd channels

I have built a home media server from my MOL's old sony vaio desktop. I have Vista home premium installed and have had very little problems with my setup that I haven't been able to find solutions to online somewhere. Except for this one. I can't seem to get sound when i tune into the OTA HD channels, or when i play a DVD in my DVD ROM drive. I have sound when i use WinTV on the HD channels, and i haven't tried to play a DVD with another program. Any help would be appreciated.

Based on that, I suspect you have your system set to bitstream Dolby Digital to a device that lacks a Dolby Digital decoder. I'm not familiar with Vista, so someone else will need to provide instructions for testing this, and if this is confirmed to be the problem, setting your system to decode the Dolby Digital stream locally.

Yup, I would enable Auto Volume in TV Settings and see if that sorts it! :)
