SiliconDust HDHomeRun DVR service

#1

Post by justinH » Wed Jan 01, 2020 7:20 pm

Hello

I have a WMC with Ceton tuner. I was about to purchase the schedule direct subscription to get my guide up and working.
I noticed the info about using the SiliconDust HDHomeRun DVR service instead of schedule direct.
I was wondering if I could use my SiliconDust dvr subscription with EPG even though I am not using the SiliconDust tuner.

I tried to configure it and I got the error "there was an error importing the MXF file" I'm assuming that is because I am not using their slice guide.

Thanks

If you have the DVR Service, then hdhr2mxf should be able to create the MXF file without a problem. Could you send the MXF file to support@garyan2.net? It will be located at C:\ProgramData\GaRyan2\epg123\output\epg123.mxf along with the hdhr2mxf.xmltv file.

I believe you need to have a SiliconDust tuner on the network for this to work. If you subscribe to the SD DVR service, but no longer have the tuner (you say you are using Ceton), then this may not work.

I'll let Gary confirm, as he knows much more than I do, but he may have missed the fact that you are using a Ceton tuner (and you did not clarify if you still had a SD tuner on the network).

Yah, I missed that so may be the source of some confusion. The hardware is needed, along with the DVR Service, in order to get the guide data. I just never thought someone could have the DVR service without the hardware.

Well I purchased a SiliconDust HDHomeRun and did some testing so I purchased the DVR service. I thought the interface was a bit cumbersome so I was still using my WMC
I will either have to switch to the SiliconDust HDHomeRun or purchase schedule direct.

If you don't plan on using the DVR Service, then yah, doesn't make a lot of sense to proceed with hdhr2mxf.

It's not clear to me that you can't continue to use the Ceton with WMC AND use SD DVR data with EPG123 as long as you still have the HDHomeRun accessible on the network.

If you are unable to cancel the SD DVR service and get some of your money back (not sure of their policy) then you might as well use it with WMC (as long as you are not planning to return the HDHomeRun).

You may be able to have EPG123 use the SD DVR service data as long as the hardware exists on the LAN (you may have to install the HDHomeRun drivers on the WMC PC for EPG123 to "see" the HDHomeRun). You can even use both the Ceton and the HDHomeRun on WMC for addition tuners if you wish.

Of course, if you are planning to return the HDHomeRun, then this is a moot point.
