Setup help

#1

Post by tbar » Sun Dec 29, 2019 11:44 pm

Hello,

I'm trying to install epg123 and I'm having an issue. After installation WMC no longer shows any guide and the epg123 client guide tool does not list any channels. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tom

Code: Select all

[12/29/2019 6:20:46 PM] [ERROR] There are no devices/tuners configured in the database store. Perform WMC TV Setup prior to importing guide lisitngs. Aborting Import.
You are creating the MXF file no problem, but you have not set up WMC (Step 2)? Open WMC, do a TV Setup, deny the Program Guide Terms of Service, and once that is done open EPG123 and click the [Save & Execute] to build and import.

Thanks. I think I got it. I had to attach a monitor and run the TV setup in WMC locally. I was using a remote display.

Some of the channels in the WMC guide are displaying "No data available". Would that be an issue with EPG123 or SD? Also, how can i tell that WMC is using the guide data from SD now?

Is there a way to have the MXF file created on a network (non-local machine) location like a NAS? From there it would be easier to point all of the clients to the same file for updated listings.

Alternately, is there a way to have the scheduled process also copy the latest MXF file to a network shared location?

Thanks!

The alternate method, yes. Open Task Scheduler and add an action to the 'epg123_update' task.

Just add a 3rd action to move the mxf file to your desired location.

Thank you, sir.

Where might i find the window/menu that is in this image? I opened task scheduler on my PC (Win7 Ultimate 64bit) and saw neither the screen above nor any tasks associated with EPG123.

You need to have the task created in order to be available in the Task Scheduler. Just double click it and it will give the editable form shown above.

Thanks again. So something along these lines is what you've envisioned? The BAT file basically says:

"XCOPY C:\ProgramData\GaRyan2\epg123\output\epg123.mxf \\SHARED\Downloads\EPG123\MXF\epg123.mxf /Y"

and I would point all of the clients at that destination on the share. Seem like the right way to go about it?

That depends. If you go to http://tvlistings.zap2it.com and look at the listings there, and it doesn't have any data, then it is a Gracenote/station thing. If you look at the log file and see information/warnings concerning that station, then it would be a Schedules Direct thing. If not those, then it could be a configuration of EPG123, or simply you have not mapped the guide listings to the channels. Reference http://epg123.garyan2.net/install/step3p3.

So it looks like you still have MS/Rovi in your guide. Are these the channels that are giving "No data available" messages?

Open the client, make sure the correct lineup is shown on the right, and click the Match by: [# Number] button on the left side. It will force the EPG123 guide listings onto those channels which currently have a different source (MS/Rovi).

It looks correct but I went ahead and clicked on the "# Number" button again.

You have not done a Clean Start and performed a WMC TV Setup denying the Program Guide Terms of Service.

Big hint:
In the bottom left, in the status bar, you should see something really close to the following:
9999 Merged Channel(s) with 9999 shown | 1 Lineup(s) | 651 Service(s) with 651 shown

On the left side list, scroll to the right and you will see which lineup from the right side that the channel is subscribed to. If it doesn't start with EPG123, then it is MS/Rovi which has no guide data. I'm not sure why clicking Match by: [# Number] button did not work in forcing EPG123 in there, but that is your situation. You did not deny the Program Guide Terms of Service.

Thanks. So I need to go though the client setup again? I'll try this tonight when I get home since I can't do the WMC part remotely.

Yes, that is what I would suggest. Otherwise you will be stuck in time with what channels are available (on the left side).
