Giving up WMC with EPG123 is difficult

Thanks for creating EPG123, Gary! It will be missed.

Tuesday, I'll be giving Xfinity the boot after 20+ years with Comcast. My Triple Play bill is around $270/mo and after a number of phone calls, they refuse to reduce it to an acceptable amount. I've replace the phone bill to $10/mo with Ooma. I now have streaming service using Hulu, Britbox, Frndly, Netflix and Amazon Prime for around $100/mo. I'll have to keep Comcast's internet for $95/mo.

I'll really miss the EPG123 guide - the streaming services guides are not great and I really hope that an EPG123-like guide eventually appears.

The only other downside is the DVR capabilities. I archive a lot of shows on my HTPC and I won't be able to continue doing this. The upside is that I have all the channels my wife and I watch plus a seemingly infinite number of movies available.

The final nail in Comcast's coffin was their dropping the ID channel whenever any change is made to my package - it's grandfathered in with existing, unchanged accounts. And their moving TCM to the sports/entertainment tier for an additional $9.95/mo which would have made my bill $280/mo.

That's what Comcast charges existing customers to continue my 300mbs current speed tier.

Comcast charges monopoly prices (after all it is essentially an unregulated monopoly) across the board with my European friends just laughing when I tell them what we pay here.

man. I pay $95 for symmetrical gigabit fiber, with no data caps.

You're a prime candidate for when fixed wireless broadband starts hitting your area. If nothing else, it will shake up Comcast's pricing.

Comcast has 1gb internet for 69.95/mo with a 2 year commitment. BUT, it's for new customers only. I'm unfamiliar with fixed wireless broadband.

In 5 years, God willing, Comcast will be begging you to take 1000/50 service for $29.95/month.

Comcast has tried to get me to take on their service at my company. I just laugh at them. I won't reward lousy home service by giving them yet more service and control over my life. Time to regulate cable like the utility it is....
