Win7 PC randomly locking during recordings

#1

Post by xclratn » Mon Jan 14, 2019 5:30 pm

Hello everyone,

I hope someone will be able to assist on this issue.

My system has been rock solid for many years until recently. It will randomly hard lock during WMC recording - regardless of where I send the recordings. I have been using USB 3.0 attached RAID enclosures with four drives configured as RAID5. Even if I redirect to an internal SATA drive, it continues to lock up on me. No BSOD either.

Could this be a driver issue: Video or Network? Other?

I just completed a full reinstall of Win7 and only the essential WMC, Ceton drivers, and EPG123 setup. Continues to lock.

I7-4770 processor
16GB RAM
500GB SSD (system drive)
2TB SATA drive (secondary)
Mediasonic HFR2-SU3S2 PRORAID Box 4 Bay USB 3.0 - 4 4TB drives configured RAID5
Mediasonic HFR2-SU3S2 PRORAID Box 4 Bay USB 3.0 - 4 2TB drives configured RAID5
Mediasonic HFR2-SU3S2 PRORAID Box 4 Bay USB 3.0 - 4 4TB drives configured RAID5.

I have run HDSentinel and do not see any issues with the drives. There is one 2TB drive with on bad sector. But even is I turn that RAID set off, still locks.

I can watch TV through XBOX 360 or PC all day long and it not lock the PC, but once recordings begin, it will randomly lock. I have to hard shutdown by holding power button.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

Any chance you have MalwareBytes Premium installed? If so, major brouhaha in progress:

Holy crap....yes I do. I will back load the version they suggest and let you know results. Thanks for such a quick response......I was literally going to pull all my hair out and give up. I hope this resolves it.

Thanks again d00zah!! I searched the forum for PC Lock and never saw this.

No problem. was just reading the drama. Disable Web Protection... simpler.

Oh, yeah. Either way, disable automatic component updates.

I had the same problem just before Christmas. It drove me crazy for a few days. I stumbled on the solution (disabling MalwareBytes) on my own before discovering other reporting the same issue on their forum.

I did have my system lock up again last week. I'm thinking that MB got enabled again somehow.

Ok....so last night was first night of no random locks. Again thanks for the assistance.

The MalwareBytes article specifically specified this version:
Malware Bytes version: 3.6.1.2711
Component package version: 1.0.508
Update package version: 1.0.8663

I was running:
Malware Bytes version: 3.6.1.2711
Component package version: 1.0.519
Update package version: 1.0.8728

This issue is clearly a problem on multiple levels of their software.

Best I can determine, Component package version: 1.0.519 addresses another problem, but the Win7 freeze fix wasn't ready yet. No other updates announced.
