WMC starts recordings late

#1

Post by causr99 » Mon Nov 02, 2015 5:09 am

Hi,

I am having an issue with how WMC prioritizes recording vs. re-scheduling missed/late shows.

I am finding that when WMC is about to record a show, it sometimes gets very busy trying to reschedule shows that it failed to start to record. When this happens, it is busy for a few minutes and ends up starting recordings late, sometimes as late as five to six minutes.

I am trying to find out if there is a way to configure WMC to prioritize starting recordings first and worry about adjusting schedule later instead of what it is doing now where it works on scheduling and doesn't start recordings on time.

Regards.

We usually start by eliminating the time as being part or all of the problem. WMC has a known "time bug".

First step is to go to http://time.is and see where you are at. you might find that you are off a bit.

Second here is some more info.http://www.thegreenbutton.tv/forums/vie ... 953#p78953

Third...Here is the fix. http://www.thegreenbutton.tv/forums/vie ... 001#p74001

Every PC I have, the time will drift upwards of 5-7 minutes over a period of a week, I believe the default sync for windows is once weekly, for my PC's I have a scheduled task to sync every 10 minutes, could be over kill, but it's one of the best things to do for your HTPC, otherwise you'll need to set it to start recordings early, and add some extra time to the end to ensure you get it all in.

But even with the time sync I'll miss either the first 1-3 seconds or the the last 1-3 seconds of a show, as all clock are slightly off, but this is as good as it gets.

Instructions for scheduling the time sync task.

May not fix your problem, but something you should definitely do.

Many will probably advise against this (I don't remember/care why) but I use this on my machines...

Install it and be done with it.
