Installed new CPU, now PlayReady is broke

#1

Post by woodchuck » Sat Mar 14, 2015 12:33 am

I just swapped out my CPU for a faster one, and now Playready is failing. It is asking me to update it in Media Center, but the update fails. I tried a manual uninstall/reinstall of playready, but that did not help. Are there other options?

I know about the "reset" method mentioned here, but that will invalidate all my old copy protected recordings: http://www.thegreenbutton.tv/forums/vie ... ?f=5&t=275

Do you have an image you can revert to with the old CPU reinstalled?

If installing the old CPU was enough to cause PlayReady to think you were on a new computer, then the only way to play your old copy-protected recordings would have been to put the old CPU back in. So unless you were prepared swap CPUs every time you wanted to play them, nuking your PlayReady config was not a bad option.

You didn't want to watch all that old crap anyway. Just think about all the extra space you have now.
