Can I get Vista MC Sounds in W7MC?
I preferred the Vista Media Center sounds to what is in Win7MC. Is there a way to change it?

Back in the day I wanted XP sounds in Win7; I poked around the 'net and found that someone had packaged them up and made them available for download. It's easy to install them and use them.
I presume the same would be for Vista sounds, which you could then assign to MC tasks in Win7.

Media Center uses default Windows sounds for some things. Those can be changed in Control Panel -> Sound. Other sounds can only be changed by replacing them in the ehres.dll file using a program like ResEdit.

I suspect most of the MC sounds are in ResEdit or did you mean regedit?barnabas1969 wrote:Media Center uses default Windows sounds for some things. Those can be changed in Control Panel -> Sound. Other sounds can only be changed by replacing them in the ehres.dll file using a program like ResEdit.

No; the sounds, XMLs and UI pngs are in the ehres.dll file. RESedit (I'm guessing, I use Restorator 2007) is a program that lets you look inside/extract/edit the contents of .dll files.

ResEdit is a "resource editor" which allows you to edit the ehres.dll file. There are many other programs which do something similar.
Most of the sounds are in the DLL. Some of them use default Windows sounds, as I discovered once when I selected a theme for Windows (screen saver, wallpaper, sounds, pointers, etc) other than the default one. I had to change the Windows sounds back to default because I hated the new sounds every time Media Center popped up a dialog box.
