Sharing recorded TV - shows not always there on 2nd PC

#1

I have deployed a 2nd WMC PC in my house. We have our main unit upstairs, recording our TV shows for us. My new machine has been set up downstairs. I was able to successfully set up the Recorded TV folder on the 2nd PC by sharing the original Recorded TV folder and adding it in the 2nd PC, but newly recorded shows are not reliably showing up on the downstairs PC. If I remove the Recorded TV folder and re-add it, it will refresh the folder. How can I remedy this situation?

This sounds suspicously similar to an issue I had at work with SMB shares. The fix was the directory cache. Not sure it'd work for WMC, but easy to try: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/libr ... S.10).aspx

Sorry, try again: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff686200(v=WS.10).aspx

I've had trouble copying Technet links in the past. If it messes up again, search for "SMB2 client redirector caches explained".

Yikes, that's a pretty detailed tech document. Is there someone that can decipher it to layman's terms?

In my case, it was the DirectoryCacheLifetime registry key, set to 0. Just use regedit to create or edit the key. Let us know if you need help with that.

As a quick check, you may just open the share in Windows Explorer on the PC that can't see the recordings and see if they're there. If they're missing them the link will definitely help.

Are you sure they're not really there on the 2nd PC just without the metadata? This is a known issue with sharing recorded TV if the recording takes place when the 2nd PC is running and the only way to get the metadata (show name, episode name, description, etc.) is to re-add the watched folder. Until then it will just show the filenames of the recordings.
