Netflix TV gets major overhaul
"Netflix users who stream video to their televisions will be seeing a major overhaul in the next few days.
The company has announced what it's calling the biggest update ever for its more than 40 million streaming customers, rolling out a more visually rich design that will be the same regardless of what kind of device is used to bring videos from the Internet to the TV."

Hmm, interesting. I wonder if this requires yet another update for the different platforms? I've only just updated our TV.
...so that means the core code doesn't need to be changed, this will be a 'face lift'?Netflix wrote:Netflix says the update will take about two weeks to reach all devices, which include PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Roku 3, and new and future smart TVs and Blu-ray players.
Some older smart TVs and Blu-ray players may receive the new look if manufacturers update them, and the overhaul will be added for the Roku 2 box early next year.
One set-top box that won't be getting the update is Apple TV. That system has "specific templates that are set by Apple," according to Netflix.

I see what you did there, "face" lift for "face" book integration
Now my thousands of facebook friends who are dying to know what I had for lunch and when I went to the bathroom will now know everything I'm watching on Netflix. What could be better? I know, a Kinect camera watching my every move with x-ray vision. I'm I the only one who doesn't want to share every waking moment with everyone on the planet? For Christ's sake, when will this obsession with exhibitionism end?

Maybe the switched to html5? That'd be the smart thing to do, and could benefit is too.

Funny. I don't know if that's what STC meant, but I've been tempted to use Twitter as a bathroom log (pun intended). Unfortunately, employers now look at that stuff... so keeping a log of my logs might not help my future employment opportunities.mdavej wrote:I see what you did there, "face" lift for "face" book integration

That is what I was kinda getting at. They mentioned all other forms of accessing the Netflix streaming services EXCEPT for the WMC plugin. Maybe I missed it but it looked to me as if they didnt mention WMC at all (Yes I know that in the current state the plugin is functional but not the best as I do use it regularly myself). I am just concerned/curious as to how these changes impact the WMC plugin which they didnt mention

Gotcha.
Well I think the core metadata will remain the same/similar so older clients could still pull in the data and function. Time will tell.

Well, I fired up Fluxnet tonight on my TV and POOF! New interface.
It's quite spiffy. Nicer on the eye with a black background.

I forsee the WMC client increasing in popularity, as the new "unified" UI will decrease usability across the board for all other devices. And have you seen the XB1 version? Even worse!
Seriously, the amount of screen real estate used up by the cover art now when you are trying to figure out what to watch next.... it would be like if they got rid of the normal guide view in WMC and you could browse only with the mini-guide, with no add-ins to increase it to 4 rows.
