DVRMSToolbox
I've tried to run the commercial skipping tricks in Windows 8 and it's not working. Seems DVRMSToolbox is not compatible as it keeps shutting down though file watcher seems to be running.
Anyone have any luck or other suggestions to use?

The WMC plug-in was working for me, after upgrading to win8, so existing shows were skiing. I had to reinstall DVRMSToolbox 1.2.2.5 after my upgrade to Windows 8, to get the file watcher to work correctly and trigger showanalyzer.

Seems the version I was using was the problem. I donated again and got a new (beta??) version that works fine. Had some problems using Showanalyzer so I switched to comskip and it's working just as well as W7.
What's up with Showanalyzer? Is it dead?

you mean, the version of Comskip you were using wasn't compatible. DTb isn't donateware, is it?
If you were already using the donateware version of Comskip (required for Win7), weren't you eligible to just get a later version without extra charge?

I think he might be referring to DTB 1.2.2.6 R2 + DTB Addin 1.0.0.8 R2 EA from babgvant.com. EA (Early Access) is available to anyone that contributes to his site.
Easy way: make a donation; Like most things it is possible to buy your way in. The donation is meant as a small token, something tangible but completely affordable to everyone. It's an easy way to demonstrate that you appreciate the utilities and support that is provided here.
Hard way: adding value to the community; examples would be answering questions in the forum, writing documentation, extending one of the tools, blogging about HTPC, even posting on another forum can count. Note that this is an arbitrary metric measured by quality not quantity (i.e. I will know it when I see it). That said, the bar isn't that high the point is mainly to demonstrate that you are giving something to the larger community. Many have received EA this way; it's a great way to help everyone get a more rewarding experience.

Well, I must have donated at one point because I'm sure I have 1.2.2.6.
Man, this getting old sucks.

Yes, I got the early access file but also donated to comskip to get the version that works with .wtv files. I have no problem at all paying the small amount I did for the work these guys do.
I actually think comskip is faster than SA and it's constantly updated whereas SA is dead in the water.

Well, I don't care if SA isn't getting updated--because it works perfectly well as is.
