choppy video

#1

Post by viper1 » Mon Apr 09, 2012 12:55 am

I have a Windows media server 2003, with 30TB storage, and a HTPC at my TV, and two wireless XBox 360's that work great. I have cat6 cable ran between the TV and HTPC. The WMC works great except the video is choppy at times on my HTPC only. My switch is a gigabyte unmanaged switch. I think the switch maybe the problem. what are some good suggestions for 24 port switches? Are there any settings that will help?
Thanks in advance.

I don't understand. You have a HTPC at your TV, yet you have cat6 cable run between the TV and HTPC?

I like the Dell Powerconnect switches. They have basic management features and are cheap. Also, have you tried upgrading your NIC drivers or swapping your NIC? Have you looked at CPU and disk activity on the server when the choppyness occurs?

I Will look at the CPU activity. Are the power connects managed? Are they built for streaming?

It depends on which one you get. Some of the Dell PowerConnects (like the one I have at home, the 2824) have basic management functionality. Some have more features, but cost more $$
I'm not certain what you mean by are they built for streaming

the CPU runs about 40% and rarely gets to 60% max.
