Guide data has only 4 days left (!) but daily updates are supposedly successful

I just noticed last night (8/5) that the WMC Guide only goes up to 8/9/23 - 4 days left. Yikes (This is not the Guide showing 21 days, with unpopulated data. The Guide is only showing up to 8/9/23.)

I looked at the log, and saw no errors on the nightly updates. (Not that I know what else to look for!)

So,
- I updated from 1.8.0.14 to 1.8.1.2. Then I let the scheduled guide update do its run on 8/6 overnight.
- But this morning, the guide is still at 8/9.
- I did a manual update. Still no joy.
- I restarted the computer just in case; manually update again. Guide is still at 8/9...

I looked at the log file around 21 days ago (7/18, 7/19), and noticed that nightly updates had the following error, (running 1.8.0.1).
This occurred from 7/14/-7/23.
[7/19/2023 2:40:14 AM] [ERROR] File "C:\epg123\output\epg123.mxf -match" does not exist.

I got help back then, and it was seemingly a different issue - guide populated with some empty data slots. But the guide went out to 21 days. Based on your help, the issue was fixed after updating to version 1.8.0.14 on 7/25, and the guide update had no [ERROR] on nightly updates since. I seem to remember the successful update back then got me up to 8/9 - where I am STILL at!

I don't think I've looked at the guide since then. But it seems like nothing has been updated despite "successful" nightly updates.

BTW, Schedules Direct is paid up to date.

Your task is not importing the guide. Open the client, delete your current task, make sure the bubble selection is 'Full Mode' and the path to epg123 is c:\epg123\epg123.exe and create it again. I'll have to look if there is something in my code that has problems with creating tasks for installations outside the default program files location.

Okay, found a problem when creating the task in the configuration GUI. It is missing the trailing quotation mark. Creating the task in the client works. I just released 1.8.1.3 with the fix.

But the latest error occurs after I updated to 1.8.1.3. and guide is still not updated.

Since you failed to delete the task for whatever the reason, it still has the problem with the missing quotation mark. You may want to open 'Task Scheduler' and delete manually then open EPG123 and recreate.

Looking at the log you posted above, you had deleted and created the task with v1.8.1.2 using the configuration GUI, not the client (unless you had both the client and gui open at the same time which could lead to some confusion for the user). I just downloaded 1.8.1.3 from github and installed that in case the github version was not correct, but it worked just fine.

Hi Gary,

The short of it is, the problem is resolved, but there are some "happenings" that I don't fully understand during the process. So curious minds like to know if I've done something wrong (in recent past), so this doesn't happen again.

So this is the long version of what I did after seeing your last post.
1. I checked, and I did get version 1.8.1.3 from github earlier today.

2. Following your last post's instruction, I used the EPG123 "Configurator" interface to delete and recreate the task, and ran a manual update. Still no joy.
(When I opened the Client Guide Tool, I didn't see or know how to delete/recreate schedule task anyway. I only know to use the "Configurator" )

3. Then I noticed at the bottom of the Configurator interface, there is a "Save", "Save and Execute", which I have never done before! So I did "Save and Execute", and got an EPG error dialogue box! (May be that's my problem all along?)
I don't know how to attach the screen shot, but here is the text from the "Details".

5. At this point, I thought I'd run a manual update, BUT decided to look at the Guide first. And lo and behold, it's populated up to 8/23.(not quite 21 days, but it's "properly updated" by all accounts.)

The entire log file from when I deleted and recreated the scheduled task (starting at step 2 in my description), and all subsequent actions (or non-action on my part), are below.

I am curious if I did something "wrong" at any point?
Perhaps I never did a "Save and Execute" when exiting from the EPG Configurator after (re)scheduling the update task?
Is there something about Windows compatibility issue that I should have "done" something about while installing any new version of EPG123?

It would be good for me to learn from this so this doesn't happen again.

1. Okay, that's good.
2. You needed to create the task with the client, not the configurator when using 1.8.1.2 which is what you did and why the task still did not work.
3. Not sure why you would have gotten an exception with a Save&Execute. There's nothing special about it. It just kicks off epg123.exe with downloading and creating the mxf file.
4. There is no compatibility issue with the gui, but is probably a result of #3 because it exited "incorrectly".
5. This is probably the source of all the problems. You were trying to open programs that were already running (both the configurator and the client).

[Save & Execute] will have epg123_gui.exe, epg123.exe, and epg123Client.exe running until the mxf file has been completely imported and associated task completed. When that is done, it will spawn another epg123Client.exe to wait for indexing to complete, but it won't block the client GUI from opening. If you try to open the configurator at any time during the process it will abort that opening; if you try to open the client once it starts importing before it gets done with the import, matching, and verification it will abort that opening.

Running the task will have everything sequential so first epg123.exe to create the mxf, then epg123Client.exe to import the mxf. It will also spawn another epg123Client.exe to wait for indexing to complete same as above.

So basically, slow down and let EPG123 do its thing.

OK, thank you very much, Gary.

Somehow whenever I open the Client, I am always drawn to all the option in the the upper right area. But I've always missed the upper left line, where I can delete and recreate the scheduled task, thus I go to the Configurator. Won't make that mistake again.

It is kind of invisible in the client since it is mostly greyed out when there is an existing task. Totally understand that.
