WMC didn't record Meet The Press because the guide was empty.
Looked at the EPG icon and it was red - guide data is >24 hours old?
Tried to "update guide now" but there was an error message - something about a task not being scheduled. Couldn't force a guide update, I had to restart the computer. After that, "update guide now" worked, and the WMC guide is back.
Can anyone help me prevent this from happening again?
I looked in the EPG log and see this - looks like something happened on 10/24 that might be the root cause??? edit, entries on 11/7 from after I got it working again
Thanks

It looks like there was a problem with Task Scheduler. It obviously didn't run for all that time, and even the epg123 notification tray couldn't see the task to run it on demand.
Not knowing what was going on with your Windows OS, there is nothing I can do for you. The best way to make sure your guide doesn't run out is to pay attention to all the indications epg123 gives you to indicate there is/was a problem. The notification pop-ups, the red icon in the notification tray, and the red logo on the WMC home screen are pretty good indicators. Also, the warning from WMC that your guide has less than 3 days remaining.

I may have closed a windows service/process that EPG needs - I was messing with msconfig to get windows to boot faster.
Can you tell me what is essential to be running for EPG to work?
Or should I always use normal startup?
Thanks for the quick response.
