Local news recordings problem

#1

Post by NWIU2B » Tue Jul 20, 2021 3:11 am

Hi. I think I may have a problem similar to this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=99&t=12771&p=137518

I like to record local news programs for two different stations. The recordings work, but all for only 16 days, even if the recordings are set for "new and reruns". If at the 16 day mark I cancel the series recordings and schedule them again, they will work again for exactly 16 days. I've been doing this for a while, but I'd rather not have to. I also have tried turning on the flag "Allow NEW flag to override Original Air Date", but it hasn't helped. I'm not sure if there's a data issue that I need to report to SD, or if there's something that can be done in EPG123 or WMC settings to help instead. No issues with any other recordings, but my other series recordings have unique episode info and air dates.

I've been trying to look at the data to see if I can figure out why. After finding one of the show IDs, it looks like they're flagged new and Live, e.g.:
{\"programID\":\"SH015758250000\",\"airDateTime\":\"2021-08-03T10:00:00Z\",\"duration\":3600,\"md5\":\"3XDjVKSofOHOqJFNaS8kTQ\",\"new\":true,\"liveTapeDelay\":\"Live\",\"audioProperties\":[\"cc\"],\"videoProperties\":[\"HD 1080i\",\"hdtv\"],}

They tend to have really old originalAirDates, e.g.:
<Program id="8165" uid="!Program!SH01575827_0000" title="KRCG 13 Live at 5:00" originalAirdate="2012-06-01" keywords="k4,k4001" series="si893" isSeries="true" isNews="true" isGeneric="true" guideImage="" />

All the shows are named either KRCG 13 Live... or ABC 17 News...

Any help would be appreciated. I can provide further info if needed to troubleshoot. Thanks!

This is different. The "isGeneric" flag should take care of it and allow you to record the show everyday, not just 16. I'm going to make an assumption that you request 17 or more days to download from SD. The fact that the only shows scheduled to record are the ones currently in your guide makes me think that your PvrScheduleTask is not running after an import.

In your log file, you should have something like the below.

Code: Select all

[7/19/2021 7:20:25 AM] Entering RunWmcIndexTask(PvrScheduleTask)
[7/19/2021 7:20:25 AM] [ INFO] SUCCESS: Attempted to run the scheduled task "Microsoft\Windows\Media Center\PvrScheduleTask".
[7/19/2021 7:20:25 AM] [ INFO] Successfully started the PvrScheduleTask task. Exit code: 0
[7/19/2021 7:20:25 AM] Exiting RunWmcIndexTask(PvrScheduleTask). SUCCESS.
[7/19/2021 7:20:25 AM] Entering RunWmcIndexTask(ReindexSearchRoot)
[7/19/2021 7:20:25 AM] [ INFO] SUCCESS: Attempted to run the scheduled task "Microsoft\Windows\Media Center\ReindexSearchRoot".
[7/19/2021 7:20:25 AM] [ INFO] Successfully started the ReindexSearchRoot task. Exit code: 0
[7/19/2021 7:20:25 AM] Exiting RunWmcIndexTask(ReindexSearchRoot). SUCCESS.
Do you have any extra lines or errors in your log?

Yes, 17 days is the setting I'm using. I don't see anything unusual in my log for that section versus your example:

[7/19/2021 3:49:31] Entering RunWmcIndexTask(PvrScheduleTask)
[7/19/2021 3:49:31] [ INFO] SUCCESS: Attempted to run the scheduled task "Microsoft\Windows\Media Center\PvrScheduleTask".
[7/19/2021 3:49:31] [ INFO] Successfully started the PvrScheduleTask task. Exit code: 0
[7/19/2021 3:49:31] Exiting RunWmcIndexTask(PvrScheduleTask). SUCCESS.
[7/19/2021 3:49:31] Entering RunWmcIndexTask(ReindexSearchRoot)
[7/19/2021 3:49:31] [ INFO] SUCCESS: Attempted to run the scheduled task "Microsoft\Windows\Media Center\ReindexSearchRoot".
[7/19/2021 3:49:31] [ INFO] Successfully started the ReindexSearchRoot task. Exit code: 0
[7/19/2021 3:49:31] Exiting RunWmcIndexTask(ReindexSearchRoot). SUCCESS.
[7/19/2021 3:49:31] [ INFO] MXF file was created on 7/19/2021 3:48:00
[7/19/2021 3:49:32] [ INFO] Completed EPG123 client execution.
[7/19/2021 3:49:32] [ INFO] EPG123 client execution time was 00:01:14.0442351.

And tonight before 10 pm since I would have missed all future recordings of the news only, I cancelled and readded those series. I am using generic keywords for those recordings rather than 15 separate series recordings just for the news shows on the weekdays. I hadn't expected that to make any difference, but will mention it just in case.

The other most frequent regular recording I have, The Late Show, regularly picks up new episodes without any problems. I've never had to touch it to get it to continue working, but it isn't a generic show like the news.

Thanks

You would think it wouldn't matter, but I've never used generic keyword requests. What is keyword request setup... I'll try to duplicate it here. This may be a WMC quirk, but don't know.

I don't use keyword recordings a lot either but with every time slot being its own series it seemed way easier, since I'm trying to record all news broadcasts so when I go to check area news I'll have the latest one.

Keyword: krcg live
No category
Frequency: Every time
Show type: New and rerun
Channel: 13.1
Keep: As many as possible; until space needed

Keyword: "abc 17" news
No category
Frequency: Every time
Show type: New and rerun
Channel: 17.1
Keep: As many as possible; until space needed

Thanks

Well, that was surprisingly easy to duplicate. I setup a generic keyword request for one of my local news programs and it picked up 76 airings. I then added 2 more days of guide listings and it stayed at 76, not picking up the new programs on the new days. I ran the PvrScheduleTask manually with no change, and then changed the request settings within WMC which will do the PvrScheduleTask again, and still nothing. Looks like a WMC quirk. Maybe some of the WMC veterans here can shed some light, but I'm calling this a WMC quirk.

I will try to find some way to get WMC to pick up the new programs, but you may just have to create individual series requests to stop from the continuous delete/recreate cycle.

I've only ever set up a few keyword search Series for programs that were not in the current guide. I don't think that they ever recorded anything, maybe this is why...

But I have seen posts here about people using keyword search for things such as sports and have never heard any complaints about this problem. For instance here or here are people using keywords to record sports with no complaints.

Thanks for duplicating the problem. At least that way I know it isn't just my system. It hadn't occurred to me that Microsoft would have left the generic keyword recording feature so fundamentally broken, but in hindsight it should have. Perhaps usually people that use the feature with success are just trying to catch things coming up in the next few weeks, and it does work for that.

I've created individual series recordings, and those are working fine. It'll miss a rare news special that the keyword search would pick up, but that seems worth it to avoid the delete/re-add hassle. I still have one issue that I have to solve with a manual time recording as I was before, but I'm pretty sure I need to report that one to SD. ABC 17 News at Noon shows "(Repeat)" below the title every day (even though it is live news). Recording it using either series recordings or keywords, and even if choosing to record reruns, once it is recorded once it won't record again. So presumably the guide reports it as the exact same episode for every day. Ah yes, it is marked as a Newscast Special instead of a Series. Comparing it to the 9 a.m. slot that works fine:

"jsonEntry": "{\"programID\":\"SH018119600000\",\"titles\":[{\"title120\":\"ABC 17 News at Noon\",}],\"originalAirDate\":\"2013-09-02T00:00:00\",\"genres\":[\"News\",\"Special\"],\"keyWords\":{\"Time Period\":null,\"General\":[\"Newscast\"]},\"entityType\":\"Show\",\"showType\":\"Special\",\"hasImageArtwork\":true,\"hasSeriesArtwork\":true,\"md5\":\"zWsBqxV3Dv0n8Qhzz47guA\",\"code\":0,}"

"jsonEntry": "{\"programID\":\"SH017820020000\",\"titles\":[{\"title120\":\"ABC 17 News at 9\",}],\"originalAirDate\":\"2013-09-02T00:00:00\",\"genres\":[\"News\",\"Newsmagazine\"],\"entityType\":\"Show\",\"showType\":\"Series\",\"hasImageArtwork\":true,\"hasSeriesArtwork\":true,\"md5\":\"Ekz+XNQUJUdWAdW2SYIIsg\",\"code\":0,}"

Yah, the problem with that one is it is marked as Special and not Series. If it is an 'SH' program with showType of 'Series', then I set the isGeneric flag which allows WMC to schedule all the shows in the guide without falling into the "already recorded" trap. There are a few other news programs out there that are flagged as special, but not many. This is coming from SD's upstream provider Gracenote.
