Windows 10 without WMC

Probably been asked before but I've not been following along lately but can I use epg123 on my newish Win10 PC for xmltv guide data?

Yup. EPG123 is compatible with all versions of Windows from XP (with a patch) to Win10 with the exception of Server 2003.

I'm not able to use epg123 Client to edit the lineup. It won't load when I double click or when I right click > open. It looks like it is going to open but then it doesn't open.

You have a version of epg123 still running in memory. Is it paused waiting for a recording to complete?

EDIT: I misread and thought you said the client wouldn't open. The configuration GUI is not opening because there is an epg123.exe process still in memory. Either a GUI is already open, or ....

It is the client that won't open. I can get to the configuration GUI. Here's my latest log after running it manually. For whatever reason it was saying the scheduled task was not enabled but it did run this morning as scheduled at 2:40 am. This is only manual runs afterwards.

I think I'm caught up now. If you do not have WMC installed, the client won't open. There should be a prompt saying as much, but I'm not sure it works all the time.

The error you posted above, did you click the [Create/Delete] button to restart the configuration GUI with elevated priveleges? I believe we can see this error if it takes too long for the old window to close properly and release the mutex.

The "Parameter is not valid." message is actually a 0-byte image for a station logo from Schedules Direct. A couple lines up you see the "Kicking off background worker..." message for 1 station logo. You will keep getting that on every update until the logo situation is corrected by SD. There is no harm other than a station that does not have a logo.

If you find what station that is, you can create your own logo and place it in the .\logos folder and that will be it. No more background worker and parameter is not valid messages anymore.

So I'll need to hack in WMC to use the GuideTool function of epg123 Client to edit my guide for import into Emby. I figured that might be the issue.

I did run epg123 configuration elevated to see if that might fix the problem with the client.

Any way to work around this? I just updated my last laptop From Win7Pro to Win10Pro and have no Win7 machines.

I have both antenna and CableCARD tuners. I want my locals via antenna and the rest via CableCARD. I want to re-number my stations to be more consistent so that I don't have 2.1, 4.1, 7.1 etc but can rather put them at 1002, 1004 and 1007 etc, all while re-organizing the order of channel numbers from Spectrum which is a mess and has no logic to it. I guess I need to do this somehow else.

I think the only way to accomplish what you are after would be to use ServerWMC with emby. You will have to setup a WMC and use the client to do the renumbering on that station.

Getting part way there, you can create a custom lineup that will exclude your locals from the cable lineup... there is nothing you can do about renumbering though. This will be the XMLTV file to import into emby.

I don't even think the ServerWMC works in Emby any longer. An Emby Server update broke it a while ago. I use the built in Emby guide which is pretty robust but Emby doesn't yet have good channel management. It's been in the works for some time now but not complete yet as they work on a better transcoding solution and some other improvements.
