Annoying guide message after setup

#1

Post by was4MC » Wed Mar 18, 2020 6:31 pm

Hello,
My Windows 7 MC had a problem this morning that caused it to lose the TV setup. Instead of spending unknown hours of troubleshooting what had gone wrong, I restored the last good back up from my server. All good again. Decided to add an additional tuner card (Hauppauge) that did not get configured properly on prior config. Ran the setup of signal detection on Media Center, declined the Guide Terms of Service as described in the epg123 setup instructions, and got it to be recognized again. Guide setup on epg123 was successful, but now getting this annoying message "Guide listings will be out of date in fewer than 3 days. Select Download to get the latest Guide listings" every time I open the guide. Any ideas on how to get rid of it would be appreciated.

If you're getting that message, then you have less than 3 days of guide listings in the database. Does your guide show any listings? What does your status logo look like? Anything in the trace.log file?

Checked the guide, it does end after 3 days. It appears the epg123 server is in maintenance and offline right now. I did not see anything obvious in the trace.log, but I am attaching it here. Thanks in advance.

Well, good news is EPG123 is running fine and importing updated guide listings. The bad news is you are not using that data... you are still using the MS/Rovi guide.

All the log entries stating 'Skipped matching...', that is because you currently have another guide provider assigned to that channel.

If you open the client, select the EPG123 lineup on the right pulldown, and click the Match by: [# Number] button... you should then have guide listings. You will probably lose all your scheduled recording requests though, so you will need to check those.

You beat me to the response once again, drat!

I was just going to post that you can see from the last report here that the guide listings for the Microsoft/Rovi data is currently ending on 3/20 which corresponds with your "listings end in 3 days" message.

So it looks like you either did not say "no" to the ToS this time or the image you restored had the Rovi/Microsoft data in it (in which case you did not do a clean install or also did not say no to the "ToS").

I'm not even sure if saying "yes" to the "ToS" causes problems anymore, as I had read that that part on the MS servers no longer worked, but I'm not sure. If that is the case then most likely the image you restored from still has the MS/Rovi guide data.

That was the trick! Guide now correct. Looks like nothing scheduled although the series are listed. I will set them up again. Thanks for the help.

Saying yes will still be a problem unless the user deletes their existing WMC database (Step 1). If running a TV Setup without deleting the database, it will just reuse what it already knows which will be the headends for MS/Rovi.

A quick way to get your recording requests converted is to create a [Backup] in the client and then open the transfer tool. Open that newly created backup and you will be able to convert and transfer the requests.

Any entry on the right side that is a salmon color should be removed. Select those entries, right-click, and select 'Cancel'.

Other then having messed up categories, what are the other disadvantages to running with Rovi still in your DB (ie: just doing the "Match by: [# Number] button" thing as opposed to doing a clean start)?

I remember the strange categories I had with MS/Rovi data and that alone would be enough for me to want to go back and do a clean start. All those strange categories would be completely useless as they would never match anything, making the whole thing pretty much useless unless you learn which categories are used by SD/Gracenote and which ones were used by MS/Rovi.
