The new check box works (YAY!). I suppose that was pre-programmed into the last update to start displaying on Jan 31.

I just got the new popup, checked the box and checked for the new registry value.

Hopefully the reg value "HKEY_USERS\<whateverSID>\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Settings\MCE.PerUserSettings" ; epgDeprecationNoticeDoNotRemindMeAgain; DWORD = 1 is the ultimate fix.

so annoying.

thanks microsoft.

I would be interested to know if this checkbox appears/reg key works for people that have previously removed/withheld Windows Updates for their MCE/WMC host machines.

I guess we'll find out shortly with out people's feedback.

good luck y'all.

Haven’t seen a checkbox, although it seems for some reason the message was having an issue on my Media Centre anyway as they were buttons with no text, but I can confirm that I am no longer seeing the pop up message at all. Why this wouldn’t kick in at midnight I have no idea but it’s all back to normal again. Relief! 😄

Microsoft has officially retired it's EPG service, this is what you see from today onwards when attempting EPG updates ...

To get rid of the notification, set the following DWORD registry key to 1

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Settings\MCE.PerUserSettings]

epgDeprecationNoticeDoNotRemindMeAgain

If you didn't install monthly security rollup updates from September 2019 on you won't get this popup warning. If you want to be sure you'll never see that popup, checkbox or not, again, remove the last security rollup patch you have installed and hide every one offered again through Windows update back to the August 2019 rollup. The August one is safe to install. Apply any security only patches from the subsequent months and you'll be up-to-date and guaranteed nag-proof forever.

It's a bit off-topic but probably worth mentioning that it is possible to get 3 more years of monthly Critical and Important security updates for Windows 7 though a manual delivery process (not via Windows Updates). It's not free if you want to be legit.
