Scrolling through guide crashes WMC

#1

Post by Ronstang » Mon Jan 06, 2020 9:06 am

I was about to purchase a year of EPG123 but my guide is now pretty much useless. It updates but if I click on TCM Channel to check the guide for the next few weeks as I scroll WMC crashes and restarts.....this continues to happen until it just crashes and I have to restart WMC. If I simply scroll the whole guide view with TCM highlighted I can see the guide but this is tedious and slow. I prefer to look at a single channel at a time and schedule recordings for the next few weeks but I cannot do this at the moment.

This is Windows 8.1 machine and WMC has never crashed in the 5 years this machine has been running until I installed EPG123. I love the guide, it's way nicer and more accurate than whatever cheap crap Microsoft had switched to it if I can't get WMC to stop crashing when I scroll the guide it's pretty much useless to me.

Any help would be appreciated......thanks

Ron

I was contacted a couple weeks ago from a user with possibly the same issues. Could you verify that it will crash when, in that channel view, it will crash on a program that does not have an image? It will more than likely be a movie since series/episodes seem to always have images.

Okay, I think I was actually able to find the problem. It will take me a while to verify, but I think the fix will be simple.

The update seems to have fixed the problem for me. Don't know if it makes any difference, but I closed WMC before downloading and installing. Scrolled throgh TCM and several HBO channels, no problem.

I did the same but the problem got worse for me. Do I need to completely uninstall and then do the complete setup again? Because I just ran the installer and then updated the guide. This problem did not occur for me until last night either

Noticed I have the same issue with the crashing as I scroll through the TCM channels listings.

I went to the site to update to version 1.3.5.0 and noticed it says, "Those experiencing this problem will either have to wait for the current guide listings to die out, or can perform a [Save & Execute] from the configuration GUI and then use the client to [Rebuild WMC Database]."

Does "die out" mean to wait 14 days from today for the guide data to be out of the system?

After you update to 1.3.5, you need to create a new MXF file to import. To clear out the old (bad) listings, you need to perform a [Rebuild WMC Database] and then import the new MXF file.

The "die out" is waiting for those offending programs (typically only movies) that do not have any artwork to leave your guide. It is not a guarantee that 14 days will be it... a movie without any artwork could show multiple times and the "die out" time would be based on when the last program leaves the database.
