Cannot Create Scheduled Task

#1

Post by epg123help » Fri Mar 16, 2018 11:20 pm

When I try to create a scheduled task, it does not save. I have tried through both the Configuration GUI and the Client configuration set to full mode. In either case, I get a line in the trace file that says:
[ERROR] Failed to create a daily update task in Task Scheduler. Exit: 00000001

Also, if I try to Save or Save+Execute my settings in the Configuration GUI, I get an Unhandled Exception popup, and it does not save my settings.

Where did you install EPG123? Sounds like a permission problem writing to the folder.

Installed in default folder and worked through setup according to the guide. Have also tried running programs as Admin with same result.

Confusing, but I still think it's a permission problem... or maybe an antivirus program preventing epg123 from writing to the folder?

Still the same when I turned all firewalls and antivirus off. This was on a VM with fully patched Win7. Not a whole lot else on the box. I was just trying to test this install before migrating my real PVR setup from NextPVR (Always preferred WMC prior to the whole guide update issue). I'll try on my physical machine and see how it goes.

I am having a similar issue. I can delete the task from within the epg123 folder and when I create a new one it is created again in the epg23 folder. I have checked and both user and admin have write permissions. Below is the log from the trace file. When I open the gui or client in full mode it does not save.

[3/17/2018 1:58:50 PM] [ INFO] Successfully queried the Task Scheduler for status. No task is scheduled to run.

Interesting ... I just verified this on a Win10 machine. I guess there's going to be a v1.1.23 out today as well.

Okay, this was a demonstration of the adage... If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I had changed the encoding of the task xml file from Unicode to UTF8. Turns out that importing/creating a task in task manager doesn't work with UTF8.

v1.1.23 coming soon.

LOL, glad to help. I must have been one of the first to download the new version as an initial install... Please let us know when the fix is up.

After today, I'm just going to crawl under a rock. I recreated your problem and will release, guess what, v1.1.24 later?

And 3 of those were today ... which isn't even over yet (for US anyway).

We seriously need a facepalm emoticon for this board ... I have owned and earned that today.

Thanks for all your hard work today Gary. Today's issues are not even close to the fun I have had in the past with guide data before this great addition. Again thanks for all you do!!!

Don't worry about it. I'd rather have you actively developing for Media Center and making the odd slip, than the approach Microsoft takes.

I am going back to using EPG 123 after using it successfully in the past, then switching and using the internal WMC Rovi guide data for a while, then back to EPG 123. I have done a "Clean Setup" through the Client program and reinstalled the latest v1.1.25 of EPG 123. After opening the EPG 123 "non client" program I have edited my channel lineup by checking and unchecking the various channel boxes that I want. I click "Save & Execute" and all of the progress bars go through their normal process concluding with 100% "Import Guide Data". But WMC has no data showing channel numbers, which will tune to programs, but no names, logos and showing not available for program names in the guide.

As I look things over to try to see what may be wrong I notice that the "Scheduled Task" area is grayed out. It is grayed out on the "client" program as well and on the non client program The "Delete button" shows and is not grayed out. I have clicked on it but it doesn't clear out the old grayed out task so that I can reset it, the Delete button remains and I do not get the Create button. I have an active subscription to Schedules Direct with a date in the future indicating its expiration date.

So my first question is how do I get the new data into WMC? Secondly, Does the scheduled task function have something to do with my problem?

Any help is appreciated.

No particular order ...

If you see a Delete button, that means the task is already created (probably left over from previous usage). In order to Create/Delete tasks you need to be running as administrator which is why you see the shield on the button. Clicking a button with a shield will close the program and open back up as administrator and the button(s) will no longer have the shield. At that point, you can click the button again to actually execute the Create/Delete.

For guide listings, it sounds to me you don't have the listings associated with the guide channels. Open the client GUI and click the Match by: [# Number] button to automatically link the listings and channels together. If you have any custom numbers then before you do the match, click the [Custom Labels] button to read [Original Labels].

I'll resurrect this thread to see if there are any other thoughts on why I might be getting this error when I try to create a scheduled update task. (Nothing in the thread so far seems to relate to my circumstances, but maybe I'm not understanding.) Here are the relevant lines in my trace.log:

[12/22/2019 11:21:41 AM] [ERROR] Failed to create a daily update task in Task Scheduler. Exit: 80004005
[12/22/2019 11:21:41 AM] [ INFO] Successfully queried the Task Scheduler for status. No task is scheduled to run.

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate, fully updated
program path: E:\Program Files (x86)\Video\epg123\epg123.exe
configuration: v 1.3.2.10
running as administrator (have also tried running normally and running the client version)
disabled AVG antivirus and Windows Firewall just to check

I have successfully set up epg123 so the listings show up in Windows Media Center. I just can't get new listings.

If I click the "Save & Execute" button, epg123 successfully creates/updates the epg123.mxf file in the output folder of the program path mentioned above. And trace.log reports all kinds of success. (No spoiler tags? Ok, I'll post the trace.log results at the very bottom in case they're relevant.)

Possibly related, when I start up Windows Media Center, the following logo flashes in the bottom right for a couple of seconds:
