Use VLC Media Player or install codecs?

#1

I am at the moment been using vlc player to handle the extensions that media center doesnt. But seem to be stuck on v 2.06. When I try later versions they dont integrate well with media browser and Antec veris Basic /Imon remote,, in that Media Browser will start a media file in vlc but then the remote wont control vlc or even exit it. v2.06 was the last one that was ok. The thing I liked about this way of doing things is that I could boost the volume of vlc media files so they are similar to MC. BUT now thinking of going the codec route; the files that MC wont play seem to be MP4 and MKVs. I dont use exenders. ANy suggestions how to proceed as easy as possible. I run 64 bit W7.

I used this in win7 and fixed playback for WMP. I did not install the real player codec which they ask you at the end of the install.
Has good reviews and I agree completely.

I see this covers up to win10 but have not tried it.
